Buy now or wait for 2023 model in August
I'm debating of I should order now or wait.
If order now it will likely be be near july delivery. If I wait a few month it will likely be 2023 model What if any changes are likely for 2023? Any other reason to buy or wait? Idrive 8 change in 2023? Is the a pro or con? |

You've opened up a can of worms. If you want the car just order it and dont worry about it. I ordered in Dec, I dislike the rumored LCI idrive 8 dash but I likely wont have the car until the fall as a 2023 model. Unless you have an allocation, you probably dont have a choice either.

BMW has not released any news (official or otherwise) about changes to the '23 G80, so we're mostly left to speculate based on rumors. Some rumors, especially from insiders with a good track record, are better than others: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=901686
I'm first in line at my dealer for a '23 G80, which likely won't be available to order until late May/early June. However, depending on which dealer you're working with and their current queue, you may not receive your allocation until the '23 MY at this point, as Forzanerazzurri points out... so it may be a moot issue. I believe that they will update to iDrive 8, and possibly apply some minor LCI-like exterior updates as well. I *hope* that they will retain some physical buttons on the dash and keep things more driver-focused, i.e. more like the XM and less like the i4. (I believe most of the complaints voiced thus far aren't about iDrive 8, per se, but rather about the Tesla-fication of the interior.) I'm also concerned about rising costs and the potential for additional content cuts... we'll see.

There have been several discussions on the LCA speculations and a search should bring up all of those discussions. Major change might be iDrive 8 which is a dealbreaker for many. Also expect a significant MSRP bump for next model year.

They just announced the details of the M8 and 8 series LCIs and there is no ugly iDrive 8 cluster in those revised cars. BMW shouldn't try to fix something that isn't broken with something that is. And at least for the flagship 8 series, they've retained their sanity.

I am supposed to be putting down my deposit tomorrow for a July'ish delivery, but thought about holding back for the face lift or the 2023 model or the 50th anniversary colors/badges/other stuff etc etc etc..
In the end there will always be a bigger and better thing around the corner so I will be putting down my deposit as planned, otherwise I will spend the rest of my life waiting for a better moment.. I'm third in line at my dealer anyway so I'm sure i'll end up getting one of the above by default... |

For whatever reason, that 8-series LCI features a larger screen but still uses iDrive 7, so it's hard to project what that means for upcoming 3-series and M3 updates.

As per BMW's news release, 50th anniversary options will be available for order by end of this month and those vehicles will be produced beginning March as MY22. As of now we are only aware of the badge and emblem update. Hopefully we will get to know about the additional colors and other options within a week or so.

The 8s were just getting what the 5s already had. Will that bubble down to the 3/4s? Nice to wish, but they always seem to put 3/4s down a notch with these class differentiators. Bigger screen and electrically adjustable steering wheel are things I'd have paid more for.

They don't sell a lot of 8 series or M8s. There are even talks about phasing them out for the next generation. Most manufacturers will try to trickle down their latest technology in their main stream models and sadly 3 series might be one of them.

If anything it seems the trend of paying more for less is going to continue for some time. If I were you, I'd order now rather than gamble on what 23 will be like.

The M3/M4 just came out last year. I highly doubt they're going to do any major changes in 2023, especially the new iDrive 8 cluster.
It will probably be '24 or '25 before the LCI hits, considering how crazy parts shortages are right now. |

MY23 is the LCI for the M3. Follows the normal 3 series timeline for LCI.

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=901686 Also OEMs work on future MY development and contracts way in advance. Its going to take a lot of effort to move a major milestone on their bread and butter model like the regular 3 series to which M3 is tied to. |

What I don't get is the Camaro has been the same since the first transformers movie! Why does bmw want to axe this body style within 5 years. All that work for what? 50k cars per body style? |
