Original post below:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me start by saying I was not looking to buy an M4. At least not before several years down the line. But as fate would have it, as I was taking delivery of an X5 45e in April, there were a number of M4s parked outside the dealership. Especially given that I just bought a car, I simply asked for a test drive to see if the M4 had any redeeming features to get past, you know, ... that nose. It did! It was awesome. The driving dynamics were something else. But feeling quite responsible, I never considered it as something I'd buy until much later.

Being the perineal BMW enthusiast however, I did show up at Bimmerpost a bunch of times (understatement) and particularly liked snareman's post and video on his car. It reminded me of the color of a Lamborghini Huracan that drives around near where I live. The 911 GT3's Shark Blue was also something I admired. So the color stuck with me.

Fast forward to the fourth of July weekend, and I decided to amuse my brother (who was visiting) and myself at the dealership with another test drive. This time around the only M4 they had was a manual. I said sure, I'll drive it. My CA knew me well enough to just let me go off with the car alone. But this time something clicked, something made me go back and do more research on the car. The looks no longer bothered me. In fact, I'd grown to love it.

Several YouTube videos and 2 days later, I was putting a deposit down for a M4C xDrive, several years prior to when I thought I'd get one. I had an intuition that people would get used to the looks of the car (like I did), and that the driving dynamics would win them over when they got over that initial prejudice. It felt like investing in a stock just before it jumped in value. And of course, it had to be in Enzian Blue for me.

The Spec

2022 BMW M4 Competition xDrive Coupe
Gentian Blue (Individual Paint)
Kyalami Orange/Black Full Merino Leather
M Double-spoke Bi-color Style 825M wheels
M Compound Brakes with Red Calipers
Executive Package
Driving Assistance Professional Package
Parking Assistance Package
Carbon Fiber Trim
M Carbon Exterior Package
Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight
M Drive Professional
M Performance side skirts
M Performance flow-through spoiler

It's quite the loaded car, but I have had only one principle in buying cars (since the first time I skimped on an option to save money) - buy them exactly as you want them to be or don't buy them at all. Everything I skipped, I skipped for specific reasons (carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon-bucket seats, ventilated seats and shadowline lights).

The Wait... Oh, that Long Wait

So there I was - third in line at BMW Seattle for the car. Many things happened in the 5 months it took the car to get here (read more), but it's here now finally.

All you kind souls posting about your cars as they were delivered kept me going. Thank you to all of you. I was here several times a day, every day, for those 5 months. And here I'm now paying it forward to the next bunch of you waiting.

Delivery

Let me be honest. I had no idea if Kyalami Orange would go with Enzian. But like Joey in Friends eating Rachel's weird dessert, I liked each of the individual items enough to put them in the same car.

People at the dealership later told me that they'd reservations about the config too and there was no way they were letting me walk away from the order.

But when I walked into the dealership to get the car this evening, I simply asked for my CA at the reception, the receptionist just went "OMG.. that's your car?? Thank you(!) for ordering it! It's so <some positive word I can't remember now>"...

And then I turned to look at the delivery area in line of sight from the reception. And OMG!!! That color! Like snareman said, and despite his great photos and videos, the color was indescribably beautiful in real life. I didn't get what he meant by that until I actually saw the car. I mean, I felt like I won the lottery or something. Such joy. I didn't care what the car would cost me all said and done. It's a very weird thing to say at the price point, and for the reason for actually buying such a car, but it was worth it for the looks alone.

Over the course of the next hour or two while I walked around the car inspecting it, it was sales person after sales person coming by, taking photos of the car, congratulating me for the bold selection, going into great depth about how Enzian Blue was revised (revision 5 apparently), etc. Some of the sales people came by several times to talk to me. I was apparently the first customer at their dealership that got a car with the M Performance wing and skirts. And they loved that too.

Enough words -- enjoy the photos*. My best to everyone waiting for their cars. It is worth the wait.

* there is no color correction on these. It's as captured in HEIC by an iPhone 13 Pro, and only directly converted to JPG on a PC prior to posting.

What's Next

- Going to get the front splitter installed.
- I have the rear winglets on the way but I may skip getting them installed (thoughts?)
- Full body paint protection. Windshield protection film. Tints.
- Carbon fiber seat backs (here already).

Beautiful color combo. While I'm not a fan of the rear wing I think it's fitting here. The rear winglets would compliment things well alongside the splitter given the aggressive nature of your car. Kyalami orange is a bold, yet beautiful interior color even though I'm a bit biased.

Wow that blue looks really good. The color combo of the interior and your rim selection are on point. I still can’t decide on if I like the M performance wing though.

I agree, the winglets behind the wheels would be fitting, here. I think because once you see them, you cant unsee them. Now, whenever I see the side skirts, Im going to think it also needs the rears. Great looking car. The color is a yes, from me.

I also agree on full body PPF. I just got mine back from full STek and Feynlabs ceramic. I did my first wash after letting the PPF dry for a few weeks, man, Ive had ceramic coated cars, but Ive never full PPFd a car. I highly recommend it. Just really easy to clean, and when I blow and towel dry the car, I have to keep reminding myself Im not swirling the paint, the car is covered.

Well done. Props for the bold color combination and aggressive ad-ons; keep going. One thing I like about certain enthusiast cars (the 911 is another) is the ability to tailor it to the owner's taste and mission. Let's call yours the "go big or go home" avenue. (Mine, to be posted before Christmas, is the "fly under the radar" boulevard.).

Enjoy in good health .. and LOVE how rich the shade of blue is!!

Great color! Love enzian! Since you have the side skirts, I’d do the rear winglets. Feel like it completes the look.

I still can’t get behind the wing though. Not my taste at all.

Congrats on the sweet ride!

Congrats!!!!!!!

The KO looks great with the blue. I considered it, but wasn't sure what I'd think of it without seeing it in person and if I'd be able to do it long term so I went with the safe black.

And yes, now you know what I mean how these blues are just indescribable until you see them in person.

Beautiful combo. Not keen on the wing but I think the accessories you are planning will make it flow a bit better. CONGRATS!

Yeah the rear wing looks stupid. Like some rice burner with a stinger exhaust.

Despite the mixed opinions on the wing in the forum, I got it anyway because it filled up a void above the trunk of the car. Sort of like a 911 vs. a 911 Turbo. The side-skirts were a no brainer for a similar reason - to correct some of the lines that I didn't find very attractive in the base car. In the end, that's the beauty of these options, everyone can accessorize their car to fit their aspirations. And help end up with cars like this which are effortlessly 1 of 1 in config in the United States at this time (maybe even the world, when you get outlandish) - and we all get to share and enjoy as enthusiasts. And maybe get inspired for our next purchase.

Full body PPF would set me back a pretty penny in Seattle. I was considering not doing it until I saw the car in person. And then I was like, I have to do everything in my power to protect this finish. I just added up how much the entire "appearance package" is costing me in my mind, and... let's just call this car.. a higher calling.

Thanks! The last two BMWs I bought were the 'fly under the radar type' - Carbon Black Metallic with white interiors on both. My wife encouraged me to mix it up on this car. I would have gone with silverstone had it not been for her. She loves to remind me that she helped pick the interior.

Thank you! The wing seems to be like the nose. There are people who love it and people who hate it. People who see it in person say they love it uniformly, but I guess people who don't like it are unlikely to say anything face-to-face.

All the best in your wait. It IS worth it. The power. Omg. The power. And it's delivery. I was pushing it on a completely wet road today with no loss of traction. Situations where my 300 HP RWD would have had traction control furiously activate. Brilliant, brilliant car.

Your video was very instrumental in me picking Enzian and even helping arrive at the conclusion that the M4 looked good. Otherwise, I may have just picked Tanzanite and just called it a day. Thank you for creating that video.

Your car is gorgeous! I knew you'd a bunch of stuff from IND before you got the car. But then when I saw it all installed, I was like WOAH, I had no idea. I then went on my own shopping spree at IND, Autoteknic and Future Classic after that. Nowhere near yours, but I didn't feel as bad because there were people buying even more.

All said and done and I've got close to $9k in items I bought from IND. Never intended to buy that much stuff at the outset but just kept finding things that had to have during the long wait. And…I just emailed them not long ago about a few more items as well.

Btw, love the fact that you went with the wing. I've been very close to added it to mine as well but just don't think it goes all that well with the 4-door body style. Definitely much more at home with the coupe.

Can't wait for more photos to get posted!

You're welcome. This kind of thing was one of the reasons I did it. I knew the pain I went through trying to pick the color and looking for examples of it so I figured I'd try and be helpful to others doing the same

M4's day out - took it just past 100 miles from new. I didn't want to take it out until PPF, but I just HAD to. It drives so well and sounds sooo good.

That color combo is stunning! Love everything about it, but the rear wing. Just can't get on it with it or the new M performance exhaust. All that matters is that you like it.

I'm beginning to think that the wing is exactly like the nose. A higher number of people don't like it in renders and photos, but in real life, just about everyone seems to like it a lot. BMW Seattle is going to be ordering more cars with the wing seeing how mine turned out (mine was the first car delivered with it). To me the side skirts and wing were essential to correct some design deficiencies in my eyes. The front splitter and side winglets were nice to have items. I am definitely doing the front splitter. But 50/50 on the winglets right now.
