Album Artwork on I-Drive
I was just wondering if anyone had sent this or known about it.
The other day I met someone with a Z4 is and I saw that his iPod was playing, the car is a 2011 and so does not have BMW apps but his album artwork was showing up while his music played. I was just wondering if this is an update from BMW that I just don't have or if its just something on the Z4 which makes no sense to me since it seemed exactly the same in every other way. I am having the PPK installed on friday and the SA told me that the would update the iDrive software as well. Should I expect that update to allow me to see artwork? Also does anyone know what else is new in this most recent iDrive update? Thanks, aBirmaher

I have a 2012 135i and it displays the album artwork. However, I think it only works if you have your iPod connected via USB. Also, the album artwork has to be embedded in the file.

Like for me what I do is I have the iPod playing through the USB connector thing like I have the ability to choose songs and all on the IDrive but does yours have Apps? because I think that could have something to do with it too?

You have to have the combox hardware for that feature to work. Starting with builds after 10/10, cars came with them. You can retrofit one in though.

The new combox also has an associated software component called (I think) BMW ConnectedDrive. It basically replicates the interface of your iDevice on the screen. It's one of the main reasons I keep weighing doing a combox retrofit for my 2009. That and Bluetooth audio streaming. But that's a really expensive upgrade.

Agree, that's a feature enabled through Commbox. Worth the upgrade, it also runs Bluetooth phone prep, iPod/iPhone Bluetooth music streaming (like apple tv) all through the head unit.
