Make your Laser Lights more effective - correct level + anti-dazzle

Anti-dazzle has been discussed to death so let me get that out of the way - to get it done yourself:
Hardware: E-net cable, laptop
Software: https://www.bimmerutility.com/
Instructions: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...84&postcount=5

Headlight leveling. I'd always thought my headlight throw seemed underwhelming even though it looked perfectly level. I may be saying something controversial here, but when you look at your low beams against a wall, there are two parts:
- a high-intensity portion lower down
- a "soft-glow" portion higher up above a very distinctive cut off

From the factory, the top of the soft-glow portion is roughly level. I decided to push the top of the high-intensity portion to be exactly level. And have the soft-glow portion go above it.

Outcomes on video. Both of the above together for your review. Been driving with it for weeks and there have been no flashes back at me or any other complaints. And I'm very happy because the light now feel really powerful, with the soft-glow doing nothing to other drivers (not really visible on cars ahead of you) but showing up faintly on reflective signs and road cones.

I guess due to the fact that I haven't gotten my car yet, but it's hard for me to distinguish much anti-dazzle movement from the headlights. They don't seem to be moving the beam pattern as much as I would have expected? Is it a pretty noticeable change?

For the headlight leveling, is that something you code in? Or adjust with a screw? I've found that most European car headlights are set pretty low from the factory. Started adjusting them on my '04 V70R, did the same on all BMW, VW and Porsche cars since. Like every single one.

Also, lane discipline in Seattle REALLY sucks.

Do these instructions work the same for any other coding method? i.e. with an OBDLink + Bimmercode?

The headlight leveling adjustment makes the lighting up of the signs from anti-dazzle a little less prominent in videos (because low beams are also suddenly so much better). Then this is a dash-cam video so it's harder to see what's going on in the distance - if you watch closely you can see it activate on the right many times. Less so to the left because of other traffic (it does activate there too but need to watch for it). Activating is seen better towards the end when driving on the dark(er) road with less street lighting.

Adjustable manually with a phillips screwdriver. The harder part is measuring where to level up or down to, and keeping the beams even left and right.

Tell me about it. This video hardly shows the worst of it.

Bimmercode cannot do VO coding. I was hesitant to leave my Bimmercode comfort-zone too, but it's just a matter of putting that $100 down (ish) and then spending 1-2 hours the first time. I think I can recode in 15 minutes to half an hour tops.

Well I haven't really been into coding at all yet, I just got an OBDLink CX, but if there's another method/product I should be using, do you have any links for some resources? Thanks.

From the main post and in the YouTube video description --

Hardware: E-net cable, laptop
Software: https://www.bimmerutility.com/
Instructions: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...84&postcount=5

Any enet cable should work but bimmerutility also sells their own:

Thanks for the notes above. Cool, I hadn't heard about Bimmerutility. Looks like it's similar to Protool but works on iOS? I.E. can do more than Bimmercode but is just as friendly for normal coding?

Coded anti-dazzle via BimmerCode after hearing all the rage about it on this forum. I don't want to say it was a complete waste of time, but I could have been scrolling social media for those 10-15 minutes instead. It's really not that big of a deal as some make it out to be.

I didn’t think you could fully code all the functions with Bimmer Code?

You can't VO code with BimmerCode, and VO coding is needed to get full functionality. If he's underwhelmed, that's probably part of the problem.

Makes sense. I'm a coding noob but I seem to recall reading that others could only partially activate it this way and figured it was the problem.

I did mine with Bimmercode. No issues. Took 5 min. You will only be missing a more focused beam. Depends on your use case i guess. I didn’t buy laser lights to have them not function as intended and I certainly can tell it’s much better than stock.

I would hope the anti-dazzle software has improved. In my '19 X3 M40i, I had the anti-dazzle professionally coded back in. The result was great for me, but shitty for other drivers. I had people constantly flashing me with their lights.

Also: There is no lane discipline anymore. That died long ago. Everyone hogs the middle lane and camps there. The far left lane has people wishing to go fast, and the far right lane is emptiest, which I use to great affect as the new fast lane.

I've never gotten flashed with anti-dazzle on laser lights.

I got flashed once with anti-dazzle on pre-laser full LED headlights (2016 435i GC) but I think that was just a one-off in pitch darkness.

Very true. I call it "left laneing it". Usually trucks and SUVs pulling shit and doing 10 under in the left. The right lane is the new passing lane.
