Using wheel lug nuts (double nut method) to remove wheel studs

Apparently most/all local places don't carry m14x1.25 nuts. The largest size is m12. When I have to remove the wheel studs, can I use the double nut method using the wheel lug nuts or would doing that affect the lug nuts?

There should be no issue using the wheel nuts. You should be using no where near the torque used to tighten the nuts on the wheel to get then to lock together. Only potential issue is if someone used red loctite when they installed the studs. This may then require heat to break the locite.

We always have 14x1.25 stud kits in stock, includes nuts (or available separately).

Thanks, I wasn't sure if torquing the ends of the wheel lug nuts together against each other would cause any issues to the nuts. When I installed it, I used the included blue Loctite.

For removal, do yourself a favor and just get one of these:

Go to a fastenall store and get the nuts. They usually stock them or can easily order some for you.

Totally acceptable to use this method. I will add that it’s best to thread the nuts on so the outer faces of the nuts are touching each other. Leave the tapered faces opposite of each other to prevent damage to the seating surfaces if you plan to reuse the nuts.
