Full vs Extended Leather
Can anyone explain the difference between the extended and Full leather options in the G70?
I test drove an extended leather model yesterday and it had leather on the dashboard/door tops and felt like it compared fairly well with my F90 M5 with full leather. When I select the "full" option in the configurator there's no visible difference. The under-dash isn't that visible in this car. What are y'alls thoughts on the value of this option? |

Bump.
I too would like to understand the difference between full and extended leather on the 7. Has it been published anywhere?

It's not well documented, but from what I can tell, the addition is the front doors have the quilted leather look rather than the flat pattern leatherette. The same goes for the seat back pockets- they become quilted leather. Other than that I can't really tell the difference. I believe it comes with the bmw individual composition package. Because my car only has the merino leather option without BMW individual composition and those were the two differences I noticed.

Just to add, never, ever, rely on the on-line configurator's somputer renditions. Not high enough resolution or color fidelity.
In fact, you cannot rely on the on line site for what options are available. The printed order and pricing guides (if current) are generally accurate; you'll just have to decipher the options in the packages and pay attention to the limitations (e.g., option A requires also package Z).

That's the point -- there IS no discernable difference. "Extended" leather are the seats on the parts you touch, and the top of the door panels above the trim piece. "Full" leather is everything else that otherwise "looks" like leather (i.e., the dash, the material below the door panel trim pieces, console side pieces, etc.).
I've gone without full leather in more or less all the vehicles I've owned in the last 50 years and for me, the extra cost is a colossal waste of money. There are more important things to spend your money on, like, "...a $300 pair of socks, a fur sink, an electric dog polisher, or a gasoline powered turtleneck sweater." But seriously, spending an extra $5,000+ for that is a horribly bad value. On the other hand, I DID pay over $100K for a car when I could've spent half that amount for another perfectly good vehicle, so what do I know? ;-) |

Ice4life and DroMike seem to disagree. On most other BMWs, the difference between extended and full leather is a leather dash top, dash bottom and door toppers. But I'm not sure it's the same for the 7 (or the 8).

Many of us would not agree, especially on a high-end luxury vehicle. But as they say, that's why they make chocolate AND vanilla ice cream.

Agree to disagree.
I forget which is which, but the more expensive leather option in my current (previous gen) 7 has a more attractive quilting pattern, and has the lower parts of the door in leather. If I’m spending this much money on a car, my hands should not be touching plastic, soft touch or otherwise, ever. |

The full leather gets you real leather on the upper doors and dash, as well as the quilted trim on the doors and seatbacks, and it gets you the alcantara headliner. I personally would absolutely get the extended option....
Without the full leather the material on the dash and doors is imitation leather (but its very convincing, until you see the real thing) |
