Tinting windows

Has anyone tinted their windows? I noticed on G70, there's an area of window (mostly on rear window glasses) that is visible from outside but not easily accessible from inside so not sure how much of film they can squeeze in there. Can someone post the photo of their rear tinted windows? thanks in advance!

I did 20% all around. Can post more pictures of the rear windows tomorrow when I get the car back.

I haven’t taken any pictures yet but the guy didn’t have any trouble getting the tint to fit inside the space. I had the same concern but I had my car tinted on Saturday and it looks good. Looks like they may have cut the film so it lines up with the shade mechanism towards the front of the vehicle on the side window and all completely done on the end towards the rear of the vehicle. The guy recommended the 15% all around to hide the shade parts, but I have issues seeing at night so we went 15% in the rear windows and 35% up front. Go for the top quality ceramic tint because even though the rear is 15%, I can see fine out of it. Just looks darker from the outside I guess but headlights aren’t blurry at all, very good quality and as a whole the windows aren’t completely blacked out and still looks classy and legal. Hope this helps.

Can't wait to see how it looks. I usually do 20% on all my cars.

Couple of pictures of 20% tint. Also tinted the side reflectors with as dark as possible.

Good call. Those things stick out like a sore thumb on this model.

Looks amazing! Do you know if they had to open door panels for tinting? After seeing this clip I am a bit concerned its too much to tint these.

Took a close up shot to show the alignment in the rear window. I am told that the small bubbles and line should go away in a few days when it is fully dried. If not to bring it back. Excuse the big truck parked beside me, I guess they couldn’t find another parking spot as all the other spots were empty.😒

Thank you so much! Do you know if they had to open the rear door panel for this like the video I sent above?

Don’t know unfortunately as it was done by the dealer. And they didn’t do a great job, will have to get it redone as there is lint and dust between the window and tint.

As far as I know, no they didn’t have to open the door panels. I watched them do one side of the car and no such activity occurred while i was watching. I will have to take it back to get the front redone because of some dirt or maybe some of the felt lining got into the tint and it shows. The tip in the video advised applying tape to the lining trim around the front window to prevent this.

I had my windows tinted. I specifically asked about the difficulty in getting to all the tight spots…especially the back window. The technicians said they weren’t worried and “had their ways.” I didn’t see how they did it, but it came out great! I do know that they didn’t have to remove any panels.

Very jealous. In NY, 70% is the limit and the mandatory annual inspections are required to test and fail you if you are darker. I had to have tint removed from a car because of this.

In UT it used to be 50% with annual inspection but a few years ago they changed it to 35% and removed it from the inspection. Considering how hot it gets here in the summer I’m very grateful for those changes

My tint tech didn’t have to remove parts to tint my vehicle and the job was excellent.

Dealers don't tint windows. They subcontract that work. Just find a reputable tinting service in your area and save paying the middleman.

I just had my 760 tinted this week with Llumar IRX 15% all the way around, except the front windshield. The IRX film has great heat blocking properties on top of the car came with the Climate Comfort Glass option. I am hopeful most of the Florida heat from those windows will be blocked.

The first shop I took it to was a 3M authorized dealer who quoted $600 over the phone and said it would take an hour. When I showed up, they said it would be a pain to tint because of the side windows. They also said it would be several hours and $850 because this isn't a normal sedan. I took it to the LLumar authorized dealer who did it with the IRX film in 90 minutes with two guys and no complaining for $575.

Typically, once I get my (PDC) delivery date, I immediately schedule both Tinting and PPF with my local shop. They do very good work and therefore require an appointment 6-8 weeks in advance. I would expect most really good shops to require appointments well in advance. Sounds like you got lucky...

I've never had them balk at a "special car" as they always have some very "interesting" cars in process. (..although I did have to show them how to manually roll up the rear window in my i8 Roadster to its full extent while the top was down)
