I’m assuming that we will never get idrive 9 on our cars. Does anyone know if we will get an 8.5 update?

I can say with 100% certainty that the answer is "maybe."

The picture above is from Android Auto that's part of the Android mobile OS, everyone will get that.

iDrive 9 which is based on Android Automative I agree, I doubt we'll see that in the G70 until a LCI as my understanding is that it uses a new CPU. iDrive 8.5 which has the same look and feel as iDrive 9 should come as a software upgrade based on articles I've read.

Based off the press release that just came out, it seems that the 7 series will get 8.5, though it’s not fully clear and is all based on where they put the ;

Is there anyone able to confirm this?

Yes, G70 and other high end variants will get iDrive 8.5 which is based on custom Linux system and has beefier and more capable hardware. iDrive 9 is based on Android architecture and is a "lite" version if you will. Both will have unified UI, though.

The question is not if the 7 will get 8.5.
The question is will existing 7’s get this as an upgrade, or only new production

Current iDrive 8 units (not only 7) will get the 8.5 update.

I don’t think that’s accurate. My understanding is that v8.5 requires HGU5 which has a faster CPU etc and the 7-series was the first car to get this head unit. iX built after 3/23 will get it as well as will X5 LCI and X7 built from 4/1.

Yea. I didn’t see any mention of 3 series getting it despite having iDrive 8

Another Disappointing Issue

So much for the 7 being said to be the BMW flagship.

The is not even out for a year and they announce a new i Drive. Given the increasing concerns about reliability issues and now this, we are seriously thinking about revising our current orders for the i7.

What reliability issues?

My 2023 won’t be built till July, I’m wondering if the 2024 will have the iDrive 9 head unit and it’s worth waiting…
