iDrive restart?

My iDrive 8 system is not coming up and once the car is started only the BMW letters show on the screen. I assume I should probably try restarting the iDrive 8 system. Anybody know how to do that?

try pressing the volume button on the center console, holding it for a minute, then release. That is the usual way to reboot idrive -- I did it when setting up the esim. Cannot do any harm and is worth a try.

If this does not do the trick, you can do two more levels of rebooting and resetting. One holding down for 20 and if you want the mother of all reboots, do 70 seconds holding down the volume button.

Thanks, All! Very helpful. Once I turned off the car and went to drive it again a half an hour later, everything came up fine, but it’s good to know how to do a reset on the iDrive should I need to in the future.
