Lightbulb G87 M2 and G09 XM engine specs discovered - 455 hp / 650 hp

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Posted the engine specs for G87 M2 and G09 XM.

Latest compiled info for each model [from the Future BMW Models Info Thread]:

G87 M2
  • Production 12/22-07/29
  • Production only at SLP Mexico
  • Same S58 as G80/G82 under the hood, tuned to 455hp. RWD - of course.
  • Will be available with a manual and an automatic. Most options will be the same as G80/G82, and I don't see much of that decontenting that was done with the original F87 compared with F80/F82. Though ceramic brakes and bucket seats seem to be missing, all the drivetrain and suspension things are the same as G82, and even carbon roof will be an option. The wheels will be 19" front and 20" rear, G87 specific design. The first four months of its production will fall into the "M 50th anniversary" period so expect the initial run to become somewhat collectible. And the new dashboard will be standard from day one.
  • G87 M2 Competition will indeed be called "M2 Competition".
See G87 M2 spy pics: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1844099

G09 XM
  • Production: 12/22-11/27
  • Expected model lineup: a 45e hybrid and two different gas engines.
  • 650hp, likely with S58 used in a hybrid setup for the first time, seems to be the only model that will be offered at intro.
  • Notable standard M equipment: diff, dark blue sport brakes (can choose red or black as options), seats, seat belts, carbon fiber trim. It'll get next level driving assist in mid-2023. Wheel options go from 21" all the way to 23".

Thanks for sharing this. Instead of that behemoth G09 XM, BMW should consider building a 'lightweight' 2-seater using the same hybrid S58 powertrain.

And fight with Lamborghini and Ferrari? Not likely.

I hope the issues with the S58 are solved by then. Glad the manual is alive!

This might be a good car to look into 2023

Does this mean it will come w that bizarro future dash? I mean I don't mind tech but that almost detracts from what this car is meant to be... it is literally the smallest and most driver focused bmw.

The XM should come with carbon ceramics options. A heavy car like this with steels is likely to result in brake fade on winding canyon road trips.

No bucket seats seems like a big miss to me. I just hope they don't do the MT crowd dirty by offering a lower output motor.

Yes, the bizarro future dash will replace the traditional layout in all models (excluding niche things like G29 or G14/G15/G16) by the end of 2023.

I wonder what you'll say when it's replaced in a few years by a pure EV.

I’ve an X5 45e. It’s surprisingly very brisk and always takes off from standstill extremely well with the electric assist. I can only imagine how the experience would be with an even meatier gas engine mated with an even more powerful electric drivetrain. Each component makes up for limitations of the other.

I'm curious the difference between base and comp? I hope it's not something lame like MT only on base with 420 hp

We should have something to complete with the AMG GT. Wasted effort here on this behemoth SUV...

Curious if the G87 M2 Comp will be AWD and most likely will be closer to 470-490.hp.

They save try bucket seats for the CS. It's an easy win for them.

Damn shame, if the stock m2 Comp was a 550+ HP AWD monster RS3 annihilator I'd be back into the BMW family in a heartbeat
