Lightbulb How to find stop-sale details on your US-bound G8X

EDIT (Oct 9): You can use this tool Alex_Bond created and posted later in the thread:
https://bmw-recall-tool.netlify.app/

Once you've entered the VIN, you can bookmark the page showing any recall results to check later quickly!

The tool does everything described below and you don't need to use browser dev-tools. Original post below preserved for reference if ever needed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Credit first -- this was inspired by Sbm007's post in the Engine stop sale thread:
https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...6&postcount=10

The BMW USA recall page doesn't list anything for my VIN saying there is no recall on it.

However, when I tried the UK website for my VIN, I got the information I needed. Here's how you can DIY get stop-sale information.

Go to this page:
https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/footer/quic...e-recalls.html

Press F12 to open developer tools for your browser:
- open the network tab and ensure it's recording network calls happening in the background
- with that open, on the website, enter your VIN and check.
- Filter the network calls by the first few characters of your VIN.

You'll see something like this (attached).

Of course you could get this information from your SA or the BMW Genius (though the Genius "couldn't" tell me what the stop-sale was for when I'd called earlier this week).

I'd like to know if the stop sales aren't listed anymore on this once it's fixed.

I'd expect it would go away. Someone who's got their car after a stop-sale induced delay could check and share. I can check when my car goes past the stop-sale but I'd imagine that'd be a while given it just got on a ship.

Yes. I started this thread, but nobody responded. Once people get their cars, they probably don't go to this sub forum very often.

Those with resolved stop sales https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1864982

That's only for audio correct?

Maybe i shouldn't complain too much since i'm reading other stop sales due to an issue with the actual engine.

BMW UK is how I first found my RAM stop sale of 7 weeks was resolved. Happened yesterday and I couldn't believe my eyes.

I know it updates real time because I check my status with the genius daily and I had checked about 5 hours ago yesterday morning and still had it. When I saw the thread about the engine stop sale later in the evening I checked my status via BMW UK site and sure enough it was all clear. So I called my CA and he said the stop sale had cleared. Just to confirm I called the genius and it was cleared on their end too. So it absolutely seems like it is real time.

Very cool!

If you gave people the ability to have their VIN in the URL as a parameter, they could bookmark directly to their car. This'd be of huge value over and above what you already have.

OT: Just checked your source out of curiosity and realized that the auth was just a static value. The auth user name is Oliver. I wonder if there's a dev called Oliver working at BMW or if it's a nod to Oliver Zipse (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Zipse).

Pushed update to allow that.

P.S. Not sure if they will change username/pass soon. If they do we can always update it in our system unless they introduce some additional protection.

This is great! I've added a link to your tool and basic instructions at the top of the first post of this thread.

Yup; just posted in the bearing shell recall thread - BMW must've gotten wind of the leak and wants to get out in front of it before any more hysteria ensues.

Either that or its an odd coincidence.
