Point is this excuse that a manual tranny and clutch can’t handle the power seems very unlikely. Would be a small incremental cost at best.

My guess is the math says the take rate isn’t high enough.

Only recent activity that bucks the trend is the 911 GT3…not sure that is apples to apples, but I think the Manual take rate on that was >50%.

$118k with no carbon brakes seems a little steep. But I’m sure they’ll move the limited number they are producing.

Saw the comment on driveability…which I agree with 100%.

The RPS clutch was like a leg press machine. Reminds me of my 997 911 GT2, I have to stand on the clutch to shift. It does make for a hell of an engaging car though 🤪.
I see you updated your comment. That was the main part of my post. Making the clutch streetable. Engagement and pedal effort. All 3 really don’t exist. Power holding, street engagement, and pedal effort in one clutch, that can handle the power, isn’t likely. And with a 911, and the flat 6 boxer, and the trans facing backwards, into where the trunk would usually be, gives you a lot more room to increase the size of the bell housing to compensate.

With this small bell housing, they’re more limited to an 8” clutch pressure plate combo. Here’s Clutch Masters upgraded clutch. Just like I said, it’s a puck design, and this engagement is going to be harsh on the street.

Everyone should get a M340i, mod it and pocket the rest.

That's all I'm getting from this thread.

I think I saw that white M340 modded A Holes on the HWY. Driving home the other day with my wife in the car. Some dude pulls along side me at hwy speed. Mashing the gas and braking.

He almost gets stuck behind a car and cuts the wheel to jump in front of me with maybe 2 feet to spare.

What a dumb @$$!!!

Yes, the M3 is built at Munich and the M4 at Dingolfing.

I’m just referring to the G8X series. Anything G8x is Munich and Dingolfing.

Other cars are built in both places, but specifically the G8x are built at these 2 plants, respectively.

This will definitely be the true test of the 543hp to get the G80 platform into the 10s from the factory in 1/4 mi. Maybe clip off a 2.9 or lower to 60. I’ve gotten a 3.09 with the Dragy in my M4.

Exactly my point my friend. I'm sure 2.9 can be attained which would put it in the M5CS territory which, from memory, was touted as the fastest sedan in the world back in 2021/2

I just came here to say the same thing. The regular M xDrives are rated at 3.4 but achieve 2.9 in tests. So possibly this will hit 2.7 to 2.8 in the real world? Which is mind boggling. The M4 CSL may have done better if it were M xDrive equipped but it may not be 'Light' anymore.

Yeah, this is going to be the car to do it. Unless someone puts some R888s on a CSL and can pull it off.

That’s why I avoid this special edition BS for the past 20 yrs, as the new upcoming generation will be superior to the prior generation special edition. Over 90% of CS/CSL customers will not track their cars anyway.

Who’s going to pay that for a mass manufactured car? As the crypto boys lost their shirts with the FTX implosion who were paying the inflated MAP’s. Government hand out money is over too.

Highly doubt that all allocations are accounted for, especially since there isn’t a firm number of how many units of a “limited production” model are being built. Mass layoffs are coming, crypto is in the tank and sky high interest rates. There will be plenty of pickings in due time.

i think the development cost was too high for bmw. they definitely 'could' have done it but these days every cent counts. The f80 m3 had a manual take rate of 50% for the USA, but only 16% globally.

they would have to develop a whole new transmission that can be switched from awd to rwd on the fly. and they would have to know there would be idiots doing 5k rpm clutch dumps in this 2 ton vehicle on cup tires and then crying to the dealer for warranty work. all for what? one generation before EVs take over ?

zf8 is pretty idiot proof, cheap, easily available in terms of parts and replacement units. and can build boost off the line.
