2023 M3 getting awful dash screens ?

Is the 2023 M3 definitely getting the awful tablet(s) dash/gauge cluster or will there be an option to get the more analog variant (MY2021/2022) of the upper dash ?

I wanted to order the car at some point, and was hoping for an LCI build but without the aforementioned dash refresh going in the M2 and other new BMW models.

From the sounds of it; yes the "ipad" with ID8 is the new screens for the 2023 M3. It was also confirmed on the "Special Jahre Edition" everyone is talking about.

I am told by my CA look at the i4, should be similar, but I can't wrap my head around it, and I am looking at M5's now. Ugh. I really wanted the M3, but the screeeeeen.

I got used to iDrive7 in my current M340i. I'm sure I'll get used to iDrive8 in the MY2023 M3 Comp.

I was hoping it would be an optional upgrade like a "tech pack"

For me it's not so much the software, more the aesthetic

That would be awesome! I would not opt for that package, lol.

Looks like it is just the direction BMW is going, the new 7, X7, i models all have the large screens.

I don't mind iD8, but the screen itself I am trying to get use to but it just looks like an afterthought and cheap on a not cheap car. I understand everyone is putting large screens, but it isn't integrated into the dash at all.

That spy shot is from the M2. WHere does it say that the M3/4's are getting iD8? Not arguing the point, I just haven't seen it.

My CA all but confirmed it for 23; he called me for an allocation on the Jahre edition which is going to have the BMW CURVED DISPLAY WITH HUD. And on the "Special Edition M3" forum going; it has been posted there stating it will be the Curved Display with ID8.

Post #46 https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1920239&page=3

Again, maybe it won't, but from what I am seeing, it sounds likely it will have the curved screen. I am patiently awaiting the 23 order guide to drop and am really hoping it is not on there. Lol.

LCI updates are tracked in this thread - https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1885952.

As there were rumors about iDrive8 being incorporated for MY23, i decided to move forward with a MY22 last winter. As expected, MY23 would be getting iDrive 8 as in the above post. Also sharing MY23 50 Jahre edition build sheet which was shared in another thread.

The optional upgrade would likely be the individual screens. These giant single screens are a cost savings to manufacturers. Similar to how they went full digital from analog dials to save money and homogenize most vehicle interiors.

It's truly sad the direction the industry is going but it's hard to blame them. They get regulated so heavily they have no choice but to charge more or provide a reasonable purchase price and cut costs (although making things less favorable).

Cars from before the switchover are going to be more valuable. iDrive 8 is junk in general, and especially does not have a place in a performance, driver-oriented car.

It can fly in EV models where the alternative is the even cheaper Tesla interface where you turn on wipers from the screen.

I'm not so sure. Sometimes I feel like the curved display is new grille 2.0

People that have never seen it or used it complaining that's it's ruined the car and brand, how they won't buy one, the downfall of BMW styling, old models with be worth more, etc

But 12 months from now, when it's out in the wild, people are going to change their minds and maybe even start to like it.

Now, you could make the argument that the screen is different, given that it's copying existing design language that people may or may not have used, but I'm still not convinced

I was so excited after getting my order in, but now it just feels like a bait and switch. I didn't want the m3 for the interior, but I'm having a hard time still being ok with paying 85k for a car that isn't exactly what I wanted. If the screen had always been offered I don't think I wouldve put an order in. Hoping we can see some pics soon and it has at least a little more intentional design than what's already been seen.

I like the digital screen, but give me buttons!! Don't take my buttons away! I test drove an iX with iD8 and while it does have some nifty stuff it will definitely take some getting use to.

I've seen it and test drove it. Like I mentioned, it has some nifty features and augmented reality things. I'm sure I'll get used to the design, but at this point I think it would look more finished off if the dash came al the way out to include it. Maybe it would make for an oddly looking looking dash down to the window but for now it looks odd.

you have a pretty good point there. I thought the f8x analog dash was far better than the g series digital dash until I sat in one.

I don't think you need to drive a car with all those screens to know you won't like it.

It's personal preference.

Same with the grill. What percentage of people went from hating it to now liking/loving it. I'd say it's a slim minority, same as those that went from loving it to now hating it.

I still hate the grill, it still looks stupid, but I'm in the market for the M3 bc of everything else it offers in a sports sedan (manual, ICE, RWD).

The real issue is that I hate those stupid iPad screens more than the stupid grill, so I want to "opt out".

Now I'm wondering if people had the option of a "normal grill" vs "new grill" if they'd also opt out. I bet a good chunk of people would.

I probably wouldn't back out if I were pushed to a MY23 build (thankfully my MY22 build is in production), but I definitely be disappointed. For some reason, with all the bezels, iDrive8 seems half baked as it stands, especially on a "performance"-oriented car.

That being said, it seems like everything is pointing towards a hybrid or fully electric "true" M car (not the i4 M50) and when I'm next in the market for a new car, hopefully iDrive8 (or maybe 9 at that point) will be further refined and really "fit" the M cars!

WoW, that's a really cool feature.. 👍🏻

We've really come a long way from the earlier attempts at in-vehicle navigation.. 😎

I am in the same boat man! But the grille actually did grow on me some. Still not my favorite, but I don't hate it. The screens though, that is what I am struggling with too. But to "opt out" I am not sure what else I'd choose. Lean M5, but don't really want that large of a car. Disappointed for sure, was super happy, now kind of bummed.

Going to see an i4 tomorrow to get a in-person perspective. I am hoping for the M's they didn't just put a kickstand like the i4. The X7 & new 7 have a kickstand, but it is not and flimsy looking.

Of course, these days most people aren't using the built in Nav and will use Waze or Apple maps instead. Not sure how these nifty features fit in with those.
