How you get dashboard buzzing resolved

Sharing because there have been plenty of posts about buzzing/rattling and folk discouraging taking it to the dealer because "who knows how they'll put it back together?".

My last BMW sedan also had buzzing in the dash on rough roads later in life and I had it solved by the dealer so I didn't have such concerns.

Here's verbatim what I said and what they did (which is exactly what a different dealer did in my older car). The car's chassis and interior are as quiet and stiff as a door mouse now - the only noises I hear are the ones I want to hear and paid good money to hear. In and out the same day.

It greatly helped that I pushed and prodded while I drove it myself to isolate exactly what may be the issue (and this may not be possible if it's something deep inside - sure). And I told and showed the service advisor exactly where the noise was coming from (trim pieces), conditions (speed, road), and what makes it go away.

CID is central instrument display? Glad you got it resolved, my center console lid has intermittent buzzing and will try to solve it before resorting to the dealer.

On my new M4, the dash started a really nasty buzz after a few thousand miles. The wife and I were on a road trip and she asked, "and you paid how much for this thing?" It was horrible. I wasn't going to make a special trip to the dealer just for that, as noted, sometimes the car comes back worse. In this case, it resolved itself. Seriously... as the car settled in and got more miles, the noise went away.

That's always the best option, when it happens.

Yes (this is iDrive 7). The tape went around the silver aluminum time around the ac vents. So between that trim and the screen, and the trim and the leather lower panel of the dash.

Yeah, I had this since I got the car nearly 2.5 years ago. Stiff sports car so buzzes - I told that to myself and lived with it. Partially because it only seemed to come with colder temperatures. But I had it in my last car and even though it was there within warranty, I only raised it outside of warranty (six months outside 4 years) and paid around $400 to not be bothered by it.

It’s possible for a sports car to have an interior free of buzzing, squeaks and rattles. For all of us paying in the neighborhood of or over $100K, we shouldn’t be settling for anything less.
