Sure if you want to damage the controller...

Just did this mod, added a nice rumble

Went for a long drive today, omg you can actually hear the exhaust inside the car, i can't even hear the fake pumped in noise anymore. Best free mod out there

Went with the spacer method since its easy to undo, m6x25mm bolt + m8 nylon nut as the spacer and a 12-20mm hose clamp.

even though I have dp's and a single mid pipe to too want to try and lock the exhaust in the open option just to hear the difference. The exhaust its pretty loud at wot, but I bet the burbles and decel sounds more pronounced with this valve open. Might try forcing them open like the above post to see if the valve controller is really worth it. Believe it 590 for the DAHLer unit.

Awron comes in at a lower price and is fully integrated via CAN so there are no key remotes - it uses the sound control button on the center console. We always have them in stock.

Not sure if this is a canbus type of fictionality in which it can't be altered with a dme cracked BM3 tune. Seems super dumb to require hardware when its being controlled already via a tune.

The same can be said for most controllers. You'd still need unlock the DME, purchase a BM3 flash and reinstall the DME in which you're already 4x the cost of purchasing a controller if the primary goal was controlling the valves. Obviously, the cost will come down once we're able to flash tune without unlocking, but we're a long way from that happening still.

IMHO, having a separate remote for valve control doesn't make sense on keyless entry vehicles.

The Awron units offer a bit more in features (user profiles, automotive grade SMD components, flash-upgradable, etc), but these for those that want top of the line. You can get away cheaper with one of the key remote valves, it's purely up to you depending on your use and budget.

Awron isn't the cheapest exhaust valve controller, nor is it the most expensive. But its just the ticket for those that want a completely future-proof integrated controller with the same manufacturing quality as the BMW they're installing it on.

Zip tied them full open today, really is a 15m job. If you have ramps, reverse onto them, plenty of room to work on a roller.

Bit louder at cold start, otherwise just all around sounds better and keeps the exhaust note going as everyone has said.

Originally I was concerned about the spacer method, as I thought that might break some seal that the servo was making with the valve gear flange, but that's not the case. The servo/motor is completely contained and sealed around the actuator piece that spins. With that in mind, the spacer method really is the most solid. Everything is left intact, no cable zip tied anywhere, and the car fully believes it's opening and closing. Nylon spacer or extra nut in there ftw.

You can add four small washers to each stock bolt and it makes enough room for the servo not to touch. (Then use a zip tie to hold the valve open).

Super easy to do and completely reversible.

How do you route the zip tie or hose clamp through the actuator shaft? What to ensure it’s tight and not rattling. Going to hopefully do this tomorrow. Just installed my AA EL mid pipe and want it a tad louder.

This might be a dumb question but with BM3, do the valves truly stay open at 100% when enabled? I have mine set to "full open" in sport plus however I feel like I can still hear them closing in higher gears.

I’ve been messing with this quite a bit and as far as I can tell bm3 control of the valves is not working at all. The flash settings are making no difference and the the options in the diagnostic area of the app which should let you open or close the valves on demand are doing nothing.

I don't believe valves are open 100% with BM3, but you would need to contact them directly to confirm.

The Awron unit overrides EV controller signals for full range/operation.

There are several different option as far as valve controllers go that can do this for you.

The point of this thread was to do it without a valve controller. The F series was easier to do this by turning the car off in sport mode and disconnecting the valve harness.

Anyone have a step by step pic of video guide on how to install the washers/spacers on the valves?

A couple posts up someone has a pic w an extra nut in there. Just slip the spacers between the silver flange on the exhaust and the removable black servo. Once you get under the car it'll make sense.

Is there a DIY or any instructions on how this is done?
I'm trying to understand what this 'spacer' does with the servo to keep it open 100%
Just wanted to have a backup plan should my VSC2 fails on me.

Thanks!

The spacer simply moves it away from the flap, then you use the hose clamp to keep the flap open.
You can also completely disconnect the servo and just use a hose clamp to keep it open, you'll get silent codes that its disconnected but no check engine lights, but i decided to just space it out. Up to you what you want to do, no wrong way to do it.

Where is the hoseclamp? More than a pic is what I was hoping for

I would suggest you just remove the 3 bolts. And pull the valve servo out and you'll totally see what the instructions mean.

Just dont purposely move your exhaust butterfly valves with it off. They will stay where they are if you pull the servo off and back on. But seeing the inside, it will all make sense.
