Wheel Damage - What are the odds of this happening?
I went for a quick drive earlier and out of nowhere heard an awful grinding noise. I immediately pulled over and looked at the driver side front wheel and immediately saw the damage below. It took a minute to figure out what was going on then saw the culprit. A small rock, that got stuck between the caliper and wheel. Luckily no damage to the CCB caliper from what I can tell but the wheel is a mess. I know it could probably be repaired but I haven't even hit 500 miles yet so I will be replacing it (already ordered). I've had several cars with calipers in close proximity to the wheel and never had this problem. I also have the car fully wrapped in Xpel and the windshield in Exoshield, and this is where that one rock still causes damage...

My F80 CS wheels have this issue ALL THE TIME in the front. There is literally a MM of clearance, and both sides are fully destroyed like that. First time happened within a week of owning them. I've recoated the wheels several times, and each time a rock finds its way in. Never any damage to the caliper either.

You're replacing the wheel for this? A wheel repair shop could make quick work of this easily. They can make easily visible damage disappear. This would be a cake walk.

Why replace it. Throw some paint on it and now you have an extra mil of clearance for the next rock.

Have had this happen to me as well. Front driver’s side wheel. Drove over a patch of gravel on the road going 60 mph or so and immediately heard an aweful grinding sound. I pulled over initially thinking I had a flat. After a couple minutes it worked itself out.

If it happens again I think a 20" squared setup might be the answer.

Happened to my 437M wheels on my M2C. Very common with the big brakes on that car, or any M3/M4 CCBs unless you get the 20"/21" kit.
