Based on those first videos of the new W206 C43 that released a few weeks ago, it doesn't seem like the next C63 will even sound as good as the current AMG line-up that uses the M139 I4. The 2023 C43 just sounds like all vacuum air suction and nothing else.

One of the SA at my benz dealership showed me the feature. It does sound like a vacuum but he said some people like the "aggression" it shows. My C63S sounds better with valve closed so not sure what he was talking about.

Totally agree. And it's not like they don't have that fantastic Inline 6 in the 53 AMG cars.

I think it will all come down to price. If somehow they're within 5 percent of a M3 cost, it's a discussion, but lately every AMG product has been so so expensive.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a41293778/2024-mercedes-amg-c63-s-e-performance-revealed/

671hp 752trq for 10 seconds bursts
564hp continuous
0-60 in 3.3
4654 pounds 🤯
6.1-kWh battery
8 miles on electric range

After ordering my m3 I had some second thoughts when I heard about the hybrid c63, the hp figures and hybrid sounded nice, but damn that weight is brutal, totally kills the appeal now.

I don't know if any of you guys noticed this but the car has speakers making noise OUTSIDE the car (as well as the fake sound inside the car) to compensate.

No. Lol. Just no.

I thought I heard them say speakers on the outside too. But I dismissed it thinking I had too many beers. If it’s true…then yikes….

Fwiw, I had a GLA45 AMG with a similar motor. Lots of power but sounded just ok. Worse was it always felt buzzy and high strung. I take the silky smooth S58 any day over this abomination.

I'm a Mercedes sales rep and I had a 21 C63s and swapped in for my 6mt G80 M3 and don't regret it whatsoever, the G80 is all around a much better car comfort/performance wise and I am a big AMG fan.

I was going to take our first 23 C63s allocation but after speaking with our AMG reps, even they are disappointed with the 4cyl solution on the new C. 600+ hp sounds great but will not be readily available as you get 10 second increments of full power.

Will wait to see in person and get a better Idea but for now, G80 > C63s

These should be the closest competitors when it comes to performance and price point and relative size/luxury (RS5 not in the same class).

The new C63S should have around 650hp with the hybrid drive train (443hp 4-cylinder + 200hp electric) and with that comes all wheel drive. The 650ish hp is only available for short bursts but 550hp should always be on tap. The C63 should get a full EV mode for those that want to creep around without using gas, but it will be a heavy beast.

Pros of the C63:
- Interior feels more upscale (albeit less sporty)
- hand-built engine (FWIW)
- F1 tech on the turbo (should eliminate lag with a sandwiched electric motor on the turbine shaft)
- EV mode (I'm moving to a downtown townhouse and want to be able to creep in and out)
- lot's of torque down low
- maybe bigger than 1 piston rear calipers (lol)
- Fuel economy (not something that's ever crossed my mind but recent events and administration have me thinking now)

Cons of the C63:
- way complex (but I don't intend to keep longer than 4 years anyway)
- narrow rear fenders look dinky (why MB?)
- 4 cylinder... (sound)
- probably more $ than M3
- Looks too much like a standard C class
- Weight

What say you? I am going to hedge my bet and get on the list for the C63 now and more info should be dripping out soon (my dealer said they have a training on the car this Friday and he'll let me know what he finds out). But M3 is my #1 right now as it sits.
I have complaints about the looks of the g80… but there is truly nothing I like about this car. Everything sounds horrible.

Why did they even make this car?

The P3 module alone is 200kg or 440lbs. The amg weight isn't that bad from that angle.

I actually am hoping for the M to incorporate the 48V electrical compressor tech for better responsiveness and better exhaust sound.

Here's the Mat Watson/CarWow review of the C63.

In summary, nice car, but too much weight and not much soul.

Just watched a few more, Rory, Autocar, etc. Basically the same conclusion, too much weight (noticed mostly in lateral transitions), lacking proper engine noise. I just placed my order for a nicely loaded M3CX (~$100k), call me stupid.

Good call. Besides those two issues, which are really big ones, the complexity of the drivetrain should cause plenty of headaches in the driving experience and also in the maintenance.

I had electrical problems with each of my Mercedes - the c230 stereo would randomly stop working, my e550c airbag sensors and seat electronics had issues (car was in the shop for 2 months in 2 years), my GL450 head unit (the computer unit in the console) had to be completely replaced... not to mention the issues with our AMGs but those were mostly mechanical (struts, etc.).

This car is a non-starter, I really miss the glorious v8 AMG's. Could it be that MB doesn't have enough pure electric volume to offset their carbon emissions...? BMW has plenty of PHEV and now EV sales to continue to sell the M3's and M5's etc.

Watch and see how many problems this car has. Plus it's going to be 5-10% more than an M3 xdrive that is already proven. Happy with my G80

I can appreciate the engineering they threw into it. I find it rather interesting but do share the reliability/longevity and pricing concerns.

I actually find it intriguing and on the radar a little bit.

Our situation is probably extremely different than most, so it has had to work it's way on to the screen. We don't drive much during the week and have a grocery store and restaurants 2.5 miles away so can stay super close if we want to. My wife just said the other day that she wanted a hybrid for her next car. Put those two things together and the MB C63Se is about the only thing out there worth driving.

I agree with the 4 cylinder not being as cool or as worthy as a 6 or V8. I also agree with the soul-less aspect of the car. I also agree with the "lookout for reliability issues" as time progresses.

All that said, I am not going to run out and get my name on any list. I am not doing anything about it, although it is just sitting on the radar.

If I were in my last life where I was (we both were) driving a ton every day, this car just would't cut it and it would get a sneer and an eye roll from me.
