Paint issue

Just picked up my new 24. When I picked it up the other day it was dark out. When I had it out today and noticed around the grill on both sides where it looks like the paint didn’t cover all the way. Pretty disappointed considering the cost of these vehicles. I sent the pics to my sales associate just now to let him know. I remember someone posting something with the same problem a few weeks ago. I would imagine the dealer will make this right.

If the dealer did your ppf, they do not deserve your respect!

Dealer did not do install the ppf. It was a installer who actually is very well know. I think the guy installing it was an idiot. The rest of the car is actually perfect just that front. Either way it’s getting fixed.

That part of the bumper is actually really hard for a bad PPF installer to get right. Looks like this guy just took the short cut.

One of my worst fears is someone inexperienced putting on PPF. I’ve seen some outrageous stuff. Saw a video of a new GT3-RS getting PPF and the “tech” was cutting the ppf with an exacto knife right into the paint! If the shop does anything aside from PPF/Tint I’d run! Some dealers like to charge you 5k for a PPF before the car is purchased. Then some outsource to some fly-by-night PPF installer or worse, they have their one PDI team do it.

Understandable. I'm in the area so I could guess one of the four

It's a manufacturing issue for sure, the other one with thin paint was the same color.

Someone else had this exact same issue. In fact I actually checked the date of the original post because I thought it was a bump.

How did you not notice paint issues until after PPF?

The best PPF shops thoroughly inspect the paint and correct it before starting PPF work.

Whatever you think of the reputation of the PPF shop, or the installer who did the bumper, it’s obvious they are not very good.

Who’s to say now that the reason there is no PPF coverage is that they may have put PPF there at first but had to take it off and redo. With obvious paint damage, it’s easier to just say “IDK.. we never touched that section”.

It’s on the owner to check the car thoroughly before sending it off for more work too. How do you think this is going to be resolved? Bumper repaint? BMW isn’t going to comp you for new PPF and the PPF guy isn’t going to do it for free. Even with repaint, you have to wait 30 days for the paint to out gas and cure before PPF.

You just picked up your 24? Did you pick it up from the dealer in this condition? It looks like you have shipping plastic attached. Perhaps a good polish.
Or, did you take delivery of this vehicle and fail to properly inspect the vehicle for imperfections then immediately deliver the vehicle to a PPF shop? Now, you are noticing all the little hidden gems (imperfections) a boat delivered vehicle has to share. Or, the new kid at the PPF shop got to practice on your car and the bumper needed a few rounds of laminate before calling it a day. Now, the shop suggests you to go back to the dealer because they should cover this type of thing..... Best of luck.

The fact that there’s PPF and it looks like a hack job means you’re probably going to be the one that pays to fix this. Dealership will say it’s from PPF and PPF installer will say it was like that even though they never said anything and clearly can’t install PPF properly

Yeah I remember seeing the other post too, thought the same.

Also that PPF application is unbelievably hopeless OP, I’d be having that crap removed before you show the dealer anything!

Both the paint and the PPF in that area are sub par. The dealership caused neither of those issues. You can fight with BMW to get the bumper resprayed but now that you've had PPF work done there, they may have an "out" for accepting responsibility to cover it. Of course you have a good argument for a PPF redo in that area.

I'd get the PPF redone and move on.

The PPF shop works with the dealership. It was all arranged through them. The installer came to the dealer and performed the work before I took delivery. I paid the dealership when I took delivery.

It's very much not. The PPF doesn't go all the way to the edge. I marked the outline, it's definitely a paint issue.
