Wireless charging is back?

I have wireless charging in my 2021 X5 and I know it sucks. But it'd have been nice to have it just for the sake of completeness in my M4 build. My car will be here next week and obviously won't have it like most of you here.

But if you're still able to change your config, and you care about this, you may want to reach out to your CA.

It's been back on the UK configurator for 2 months now too.

My week 40 build (just after it came back on the configurator) still went ahead without the charger.

I wouldn't risk pushing back in build weeks just to add the shitty wireless charging. Probably the most useless option that I have on my X3 M40i as it barely charges the phone and just heats it up instead.

I tried to see if my dealer could add it to my build (week 49) and he was unable to do it yesterday...

I can't stand wireless charging as it takes forever to charge. I never used it on my 5 series because it was so useless

Hard pass. It was useless in my M8, only made the phone hot and never charged it.

We want this shit, because we think its cool, and it would be, if it actually worked as advertised. Its gets the phone unbearably hot, which heat highly degrades the battery, and it charges like 10% in a hour. Its just not good, at all.

It is a completely worthless feature. Absolutely do not pay any money for it. Maybe someday they will re-work it by putting a fan down there or something so the phone doesn't overheat and actually charges.

I asked my CA. He told me that it's listed on the site but that it's not actually available.

What are the chances that it was removed not because of part shortages but because it sucked? And now it's back because they found another supplier with a better product?

Good question. Does anyone know if the native Apple wireless charger works better? If so it may be more worth it to do the retrofit with the Apple branded product.

All of my third party wireless chargers tend to create a lot of heat with minimal charge.

I have an android phone, but got a case that connects to a magsafe charger. I got a vent mounted magsafe charger and it works well. Also added benefit of in the summer opening the vent to blow cool air on the phone to keep it cool while charging and in the winter I just close that vent.

Everyone that's before week 50 should absolutely call their CA and add the wireless charger, it's 100% worth it - don't listen to anyone who says that it's slow and doesn't charge much, this is 110% false news.

I'm not saying this at all because it might put their cars in the back of the production queue and thus giving me my week 50 build possibly a bit sooner. No no no no, that'd be awful of me.

There is nothing false about it. It 100% does not work for many of us. Not sure how you could possibly have an idea what is happening in our cars but if you've been in my car I hope you didn't wrinkle the leather.

Yes. I use it all the time, never take the key with me.

When I picked up the car and mentioned that I want to make sure I get the key card, my CA said he didn't think my car has the digital key. He was surprised when we found it in the glove compartment.

Never use CAs as a source for reliable information.
