Brakes Squeaking

I've only put around 3,500 kilometers on my G80, but lately I've noticed that the brakes sometimes squeak. The squeaking is not obnoxiously loud, but you can definitely hear it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Should I be worried and get the brakes checked out?

Yeah, definitely a MUST to check out. Demand dealer to replace a new one for you or you will be in serious problem. Or just replace another car !!!

Sarcasm.

OP, did you read the small fly out exclusively dedicated to performance brakes in the documentation case that comes with the car.

I don't recall seeing any "fly out" in the documentation. But I did just come across https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1819659 where the issue is discussed at length and seems to be quite common.

In that thread, someone posted this screenshot. Is that what you were referring to?

It seems the solution may be to brake more agressively or to get new pads.

I can tell you that this is definitely accurate, you have to use the brakes more vigorously every now and them. My M2 or X5M have the same issue….

No, it's not that. I don't have it with me so can't share easily. But this video may be helpful to you:

And +1 to what most people here said. It is still possible for the brakes to squeal extremely badly (like nothing you've ever heard before on the street in any ///M or ///M Sport car) and they will replace the pads if you can demonstrate it happening in person to your service advisor.

I once took my 435i GC for service and the M sport brakes squealed like insanely crazy (ear piercing noise) right in front of my service advisor. He got me new pads without any argument. This was at 25K miles.

At my 1200 mi service yesterday they asked if anything was wrong (with the car, not me).
"My M compound brakes squeak just like they're supposed to."
They gave me the head tilt scrunched mouth look while sliding paperwork over to sign.

People need to read their manual. Don't come and post on a forum. Read the manual. If still confused then come ask strangers on the internet.

I use my brakes very aggressively every time I drive it and my brakes squeal constantly. I'm so tired of it. I took it to the dealer and they said it's normal. I call bullshit. I've had several high performance cars with performance brakes and never had this issue. I guess I'm gonna have to change the pads

This is my 6th BMW and every one of them had brake squeal. It is the compound/material BMW chooses to use for whatever tradeoff they justify. Part of the brand quirks.

My G83 is my 5th BMW and 3rd M. The non-M BMWs never squeaked. The prior Ms I had (including a 2020 X3MC that I still have) did squeak. However, the two prior ones eventually quieted down after bedding them/braking hard a few times. I could not get my G83 to quiet down.

In the midst of swapping for Carbotech 1521s, though fitment seems to be a problem on the set I got.

I had the same problem on the G82 M4 and my F82 M4, its just the brake types used by BMW M.

I went with EBC Yellow and I'm very impressed with the upgrade

But then why don't they squeak from the get-go? It has to be more than just the brakes themselves.

Mine weren't too bad from the jump but now (about 2000 miles) its the initial touching of the brakes that causes the squeal. If you last-minute break (aka aggressive), it bypasses that squeak zone. Unfortunately when you're driving like you should, you're in that squeak zone at nearly every stop light and parking area. SCREEEEEETCH. Need to try some of those EBC Yellows.

I just ordered some EBC reds. I don't plan on tracking thr car, so should they be good enough for the street? Will there be a big difference in the feel from the factory pads?

It's a stock replacement, I don't think you'll notice much improvement in the stopping power but should have lower dust.

I prefer the yellow stuff pads as they are more of an upgrade over stock and they cost the same as red

I washed my bimmer on Saturday and did a more thorough job of cleaning the wheels and brakes than I usually do. Since then, the brakes have not squeaked once, which suggests it's not the brakes themselves that were the issue but maybe the dirt, rust, etc. that had accummulated. That said, it's probably only a matter of time before they start making noises again.

Your suspicion is correct that the noise will come back. It always did for me.
