Hey all! Getting real close to starting production (hopefully) and am having the itch to switch from dravit to one of the individual colors that aren't on the standard configurator. The site says individual colors may extend build time by up to 10 weeks, but am curious how long forum members' build time was actually extended for their individual colors. Would appreciate any input!

I personally haven’t done it but given the delays people are seeing with regular builds I don’t suggest it unless you want to wait until possibly summer or later to see your car.

At the end of the day it’s your car. If you don’t mind the wait then I say go for it. If you’re concerned with time then 100% do not though.

There's no real way of knowing how much extra time it added. There are a ton of variables that could delay individual and non-individual builds. I was originally week 27 - but eventually got pushed to week 35. My early timeline looked like this:

Order Received: 6/9
Scheduled for production: 7/30
Production Begins: 8/23

I was #2 on the list for allocations, the person who was #1 was also an individual order and his timeline looked very different. It went much faster.

Just expect the worst and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Individual colors will definitely push back your current production week but at this point it's hard to really start for how long. When I got my initial allocation with my individual color I was week 35 but eventually got pushed to week 39. No one but BMW knows if that was due to paint or some other part supply issue, etc.

I'd essentially just plan for at least a 4 week bump but could be up to the 10 weeks like the site says.

I agree. I was also scheduled for build 35, and I was pushed out to week 42. 5-10 weeks probably.

Same here. This climate makes it hard to tell where the delays are coming from.

I don't officially know either. No way to know if my start of production was delayed because of it, but it certainly didn't seem to delay anything during production. My CA told me they have to take the cars out of the line to a different place, paint then and bring them back. They apparently do do that with the 8's, but the 3/4s just get done in line. I can say the more painful part of the wait is watching it slowly move across the dots, checking multiple times a day to find no change. I eventually made myself only check once a day. So, if it delays it a bit before it actually starts production it somehow didn't feel as painful.

I am week 49 with an individual color exterior and ivory white full leather which is apparently an individual interior color? Not sure on that 2nd part. Regardless, went into 112 a couple weeks ago and 150 today. So far it hasn't delayed me. I've been week 49 since I ordered the car in mid-October.

I had my individual order accepted on July 23. I was later told my build week was 34 or something before it was set to 37. Worked out well because the delay put me just past the main bearing shell recall window on the engine.

Ivory White is not an individual interior.

My CA had a week 47 allocation and I took it. After he submitted Dakar Yellow as an individual paint request, it got pushed to week 50. 3 weeks is definitely not the norm but it is possible! I am still scheduled for week 50 according to BMW genius but we'll see

My local dealer told me it would delay the order by three months to go to an individual color. I thought it was worth the wait if I'm having to wait until next year anyway. I'm wanting Frozen Dark Grey.

His exact quote, "To get the paint you require will delay production 3 months."

I put my order in april for a Voodoo Blue with the Fiona Red Carbon Buckets 2022 m3x. It just hit the port in Germany Monday. ETA mid Jan at this point.

Frozen dark gray has been calling to me but I'm so juiced off these cars after m track days that I don't think I can swing an additional 3 months lol

Frozen dark grey is so sexy. I'm waiting for it. Originally scheduled for week 48 build. Now I'm week 5 build. I'm hoping to get the car by April. Which will be perfect for update NY folks.
