Do yourself a favour and book some track time in the M3. You'll forget all about 0-60 times

You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. I'm 69 years of age and have owned or driven some great cars since getting my driver's license in 1969 while living in Grosse Pointe, MI, and where many of my friend's parents were senior executives at USA auto manufacturers. Back then, I was invited to drive the new models on their test tracks each year when they were being introduced. My high school girlfriend's father also owned an Oldsmobile dealership where I would drive everything new that came out like GTO's. Judges, etc. Since then, I've driven or owned some great cars. Buy what makes you feel great, and not what others think you should drive.

My mom would not have said that when I first started driving. I wrecked a few cars and learned my lesson soon. At 58 and a lot of others I'm responsible for and a 500hp car, I don't want to be the next u tube sensation.

Let me ask you this: would you take a Tesla Plaid or a 992 GT3?

I digress.

I'd take the plaid, drag race it against a 992 gt3 for pink slips, and take both home.

Then I'd swap the plaid for a 997.2 gt3.

Shark Blue for me please. My Enzian is a tribute to that color, and since I go crazy with options, the G82 was all my budget allowed.

It didn’t help that the local Porsche dealership told me mid-2021 that they wouldn’t sell me one because of how deep the queue was with “preferred” customers (with prior relationships).

Good point. In that case I'd swap the Plaid to 992 GTS as a daily and keep the 992 GT3 forever.

Did you say Shark Blue

I love the color- so brilliant/vibrant and eye catching too. Its the perfect 992 car color IMHO. But with having this GTS; I still am enamored with my G80X and would not get rid of it. Its involving, rewarding, and performs. The Porsche may just be a bit more of everything a driver wants but its a tough pill to swallow these days with ADM's.

As for the OP:

The G8X is THE bang for the buck IMHO. You get amazing straightline, steering feel, chassis response, reasonable OEM exhaust, and over good to great road feel. While there might be cars that have come closer in speed- their engineers had an easier time making up a huge margin while the M sits at the top and has a more challenging time improving. Yet in regards to the G8X - M killed it.

Edit- I actually have a Plaid and its fun third car that never goes to the pump and hurts feelings on the street. Im an ICE bucket man but I had to try it. The novelty is there and the quality for me is acceptable (maybe I got lucky).

The Xdrive 240i has been hitting 3.2secs in some tests. Likewise, Audi RS3s and we know Merc A45 S are all hitting similar figures too.

Kia have their EV6 GT coming out next year with 540(or so) BHP and Hyundai Ionic 5N with its 500+bhp hatchback out next year which are both gonna be mid 3secs to 0-60 and no doubt they'll pul like a train too being EVs.

I know theyre different gravy, afterall an M is an M is an M and theres no beating that badge for its sporting history and prowess but the accessibility of such 'speed' doesnt feel quite as special (or does it?) as it once did due to the plethora of options available to the average car buyer these days.

what do you think?
Like the 2012 GTR's we're doing a decade ago? lol. Flame suit on. Just sayin

working on my 2023 G80... all the colors have been touched and posted here so Im not sure what to get.

I have been honored to have the PB and AR cars. And Im getting bored of the Metallica Gray Plaid but not of the 1000 hp so Im thinking of getting a red one and lowering it with wheels like my Gray.

And Im already working on 2023 992 build but thats still in the infantile stages.

Doing the performance experience was eye opening...this may sound controversial because all journalists want us to care about 0-60mph, but I was far more impressed with braking. That exercise was for me was more impressive than acceleration.

You should do some sort of green like the Verde color with Kyalami Orange or Silverstone with 825 Bicolor wheels. That's what I would do if I had the dough.
