No dream come true for US market, NY buys more m3s then probably half of Europe or more and we still get shafted.

The M3 sedan is pretty much the same as the estate/touring/wagon, but just more space in the back. In terms of performance, the difference in estate and sedan versions of the M3 are likely to be imperceptible to 95% of people that will ever drive one, but the increased space in the estate will be noticed by 100% of people. We all knew it wasn't coming to the USA - that's fine at this point. It wasn't going to come as a RWD + 6MT if it ever did (as it now has), so I'm excited to eventually convert my G80 into a G81 when life/time/resources allow for it.

Nah I don't get the hype. I like G80 G82 way more than this.
Look at the bright side, just imagine if BMW launch G81 in U.S first then launch G80/G82 after but have them not available in U.S, then what would you all feel? |

I think it's time to be a little realistic. It was tough enough to bring the M3 touring to Europe, what fat chance will bmw have to sell it in the states, when they don't even sell the normal G21 there?
The US market have had a major influence with the popularity of SUVs. Estates are a European thing, they sell more G21s in Germany than G20s. The Americans are getting a bespoke M car for their market. They got the X7, the XM and X5/6. All those cars were primarily aimed at US buyers. The European market has been neglected for way too long. Let us have the M3 touring please. |

Looks like an X3M was stretched horizontally in Photoshop. Proportions look off (at least in this angle). Maybe better in person.

It looks like BMW will retain a traditional shifter for M cars. All other iD8 cars will get that little nubby thing. So I guess that's a positive.

The only reason SUVs are much more popular than wagons in the US is that decades ago they got a reputation for not being "cool." It's not rational and specific to the US. |

Hahaha… I came here to write this. And it was already there.
Not a wagon guy by any stretch but I appreciate it a lot more than I used to with all the threads here. It used to be on the same level as mini-vans for me.

BMWUSA's policy of not importing tourings into the US market is arbitrary, stupid and shortsighted.
They INSIST that US buyers are not interested in station wagons (A lie disproven by MB, Audi and Volvo) and if you want a BMW with a hatch and on stilts your only option are X-Series CUVs and SUVs. I am sure there is also some protectionist policy going on to promote production/sales of Spartanburg, SC made BMW trucks. BMWUSA in NJ is absolutely wrong on this one.
