Better alternative to Vsc-2? SST exhaust flap control

Hey everyone, I’m been dreading the day my vsc 2 controller dies again. So in anticipation I’ve been lurking the internet for a good value replacement that won’t break the bank. I came across the SST flap controller. Apparently this controller is popular with the Audi group, specifically on the newer gen R8. It’s made in Germany and the price is decent. Plus has a lot more features than the vsc-2.

https://www.sst-spezialsteuergeraete...from-2020.html

Here’s a basic list of what they offer,

You choose the appropriate mode yourself:

Sport mode: Flap(s) permanently open with sporty and robust sound regardless of driving situation and vehicle settings

Comfort mode: Flap(s) permanently closed with discreetly restrained sound regardless of driving situation and vehicle settings

Serial mode: Control of the flap(s) as before in the series configuration, e.g. for service, etc.

Freestyle mode: Flap(s) 50% open for individual sound and volume configuration

If or when my controller dies again I’m definitely giving this one a shot. Does anyone here happen to have any experience with this controller?

Awron would be my choice. Full control, no key FOBs and fully integrated - more info here: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1991762

User-defined profiles can set the valves to any position you wish, at any point within the RPM band.

I agree your controller is much more sophisticated and money aside is the best choice. But considering budget and ease of installation I’m looking for more of a vsc type controller that you simply plug into the existing exhaust plugs.

Cool find Breazy. I like the super simple plug and play approach much more than some of the other solutions.

Agreed.

Much easier to return to stock if you want to part out when you sell the car. I change cars too often, already on my second g82. Was very simple to just swap the vsc to the new car.

M3 https://www.sst-spezialsteuergeraete...pe-g80-375-kw/

M4 https://www.sst-spezialsteuergeraete...g82g83-375-kw/

They're identical, not sure why they have 2 different parts though.

Dahler has quickly become our most popular option and so far no complaints

Mike you should see if you can carry the SST, it's half the price of the Dahler and has even more functionality, the only downside is that you have to order it directly from Germany and it takes weeks to get. You could probably sell a million of them

I'll reach out to them to see if we can get them here for faster and cheaper shipping. But isn't it a lot harder to install than the Dahler or VSC?

Plug and play, maybe you're thinking of the awron.

no it's an identical installation to those, just goes inline with the OEM connectors and you tuck the box away somewhere.

it supports 4 modes (Open, closed, OEM, 50% open) from the remote, memory startup or configurable default startup to any of the 4 modes, flap malfunction reporting, and works with homelink.

very easy, plug and play install.

i've been driving around with this for a week now and i can't find any issues with it at all. Unless you want to go with the Awron for the OEM-like integration, then i am confident that this is the best option out of all of the other valve controllers for this car. With the valve controller and ASD coded off, the OEM exhaust button essentially now functions as a burbles button.

i had originally intended to use the homelink buttons to control it, but i actually like all 4 settings for various situations so i instead decided to mount the controller in the center cubby. Makes it feel a bit more integrated than just having a random remote laying around.

That looks really clean. Nice looking remote too. Did it come with that m badge or you added that lol looks nice.

Also just curious, where did you end up mounting the controller?

When you're installing it you will see there is a large black plastic area under the driver's side rear corner, it's empty and open from the top. All of the extra wiring and the controller tuck nicely in there and i used some velcro to keep it from moving around.

The remote comes with a black sliding cover which i removed since it's not going on a keychain and the buttons don't need protection from accidental presses. i may or may not have stopped by my local dealer's parts dept and picked up an M wheel emblem for $8 to put on there
