18/19. Or 19/20 wheels

My F80 had the 18's I liked the look and more sidewall.

I'm debating on 18/19 for function or 19/20 for looks.

Anyone have nice pictures of the 18/20?

Also any lead on any allocations?

Front calipers are EXTREMELY tight on OEM 18 inch wheels.

Car looks outstanding; congratulations!

Darn; now I'm 2nd guessing 19/20's

That looks very similar to the 18's on the F80 with a different finish!

Damn this is a tough decision!

Yeah; 18/19's it is!!!!!

The wheels are the one area where I felt like I might regret my choice (I was trying to stay under $80k OTD) but I don't other than there were no bloody winter tires I could get. I hope that changes.

Thanks for the compliment. The color is Tanzanite Blue II, if you were wondering.

Ohhhh yeah; I know tanzanite very well. My friend has that color for his 16 F80. Absolutely beautiful color.

I posted in your thread taking delivery in winter.

congratulations

Back when I had my F80 Comp it came with the 20s which I drove for a bit and swapped to the OEM 18s. I was hoping the ride quality would be much better but honestly it was barely any better. Strangely though I actually preferred the look of the 18s. They matched the functional sedan look of the F80. I can't speak for the G80 platform but I think the adaptive suspension really does its job well regardless of the tire diameter you are running.

Anyways what I'm trying to say the difference in ride quality may not actually be there, so go with which actually looks better to you.

Had the 18s on my E90 and F80, as I prefer the meatier sidewall for daily use.

If the Michelin PS4S were available on the 18s for the G80, I'd be all over them.

Do these cars really handle better with the 18/19?

It's not the handling; it's the increased sidewall to help improve ride quality and better protect the rim.

Law of diminishing returns says you can't go to big or to small.

I typically like to go the lowest size and lightest. I ordered the car with ceramics and so I was a bit more limited.

Went forged with 20/20. Not a square setup however.

The current 19/20 setup has much more sidewall than the 20's on my previous F80. I messed up quite a few of those wheels at 1200-1400 a pop.

Resurrecting this thread. Does anyone know if there is any difference in the quality of the ride between the 18/19 and 19/20 setup?

I don't know if you'll get a straight answer but here's my opinion:

1. I used to have 18" wheels on my F36 with the Track Handling Package. Ride was good, if a bit vague due to the thicker sidewall. I have no experience with smaller wheels with the G8X.

2. I have the 19/20 setup on the G82, on bad roads, the ride quality is perfect (for me) in comfort mode. The suspension can be a very tiny bit little floaty with undulations in the road in comfort mode. On good roads, the sport setting is perfect for me. Undulations have a crisp sports car like up and down response with zero bounce. I never run sports+ on the suspension.

I have run both summer and winter tires on the G82 on the 19/20 setup. No issues or significant differences except in grip for the conditions they are suited for.

Here's are photos of the M824 with m4 G82 rwd
In tanzenite blue 2 on stock suspension.
yes it's true the front 18 it's tight to the brake clipper and Unfortunately a rock probably got there and left a nasty deep mark on the clipper .
Other then that it looks beefy And handles great.
I currently run 20/21
sometimes miss the 18/19 set up .

Love the style of the 18/19’s. Wish they had offered the same style in 19/20.

Wait, so do the 18/19 wheels not have Michelin PS4S compatibility?

Just get a better tire (like a Pzero). That said, the 19s on the front already look too small for the car, I couldn't imagine having 18s on it.

I'm at 2 years and 22k miles on my 18/19s and have no complaints. Initially, I was disappointed to learn that the Mich PSCs were unavailable in 18/19, but I've been very happy with the PS A/S. I probably have about 6k miles on them at this point. Go ahead: make fun of the old guy and his A/S tires, but they have excellent dry and wet grip, turn-in nicely, and seem to be holding up well. I'm am planning to lease another M3 next year and it will be ordered with 18/19s.

Does the 18/19 only come with Continental SportContact 6?
