Oil Level At Delivery?

I just picked up my car this weekend and checked the oil level at about 120 miles. My new Porsches have always been delivered totally full, so I was surprised to see it wasn’t with the M3. What oil level are everybody else’s cars delivered with?

I think normal and definitely good enough since you will have service at 1200 miles and it will be replaced.

Mine was full. I wouldn’t worry about yours being a tiny bit below full. It’s special oil so don’t top it up unless it hits the low mark, then you get the dealer to do it.

Nevered checked but like others have said the oil inside is not meant to be used behind 1200 miles or high temp/pressure as it's break in fluid and designed to clean/absorb/lube materials.

I'm certain you have enough to make it 1200 miles, but if car says it needs it take it in.

This reading looks fine to me, are you having any mechanical issues?

No issues of sort, I just wanted to be sure this oil level was normal for this car since it is not what I’ve experienced in other cars.

For peace of mind, I’d just take it to the dealer and have them top it off, with the break-in fluid, only. I believe, from technician vid’s I’ve watched, that there is a difference between it and regular oil.

Anywhere between the min and max line is fine this is not an issue whatsoever.

Two weeks ago I took delivery of my 2024 G87 and chose to check my oil level at 87 miles. The oil level indicator looked exactly like your gauge in the photo. I thought…OK…just call the dealer and have them top up the oil. How difficult could that be? As it turns out, very difficult. In speaking with the dealership service manager, I was asked if any warnings had been displayed. “No” I answered, I simply thought having a full crankcase of oil with a brand new engine during the break-in period would be a good idea as a bench mark for possible oil consumption. The service manager would not touch the car, saying that we should wait until the 1200 mile mark to deal with this.
OK. Fine. I purchased one quart of 0W30 from the dealership and after some very cautious attempts at adding oil…first two ounces, then three ounces and finally four more ounces totaling nine ounces, checked the oil level and it was full. Drove the car for 20 minutes, checked the oil again and the level was spot on full. Why I ask couldn’t the dealership do this for me after purchasing a new M from them?
9 ounces??
Oh…after asking several people at the dealership, no one seemed to know that the two small hash marks on the vertical oil level line indicate one quart

Sounds like an incompetent dealership/service staff. I wouldn't be going to them for service that's for sure.

It seemed to me that it should be somewhere between these marks, no?

I thought the oil that comes with the car from the build is different to the 0W-30 you put in after the 1200 Break In Service?

Anything between min and max is fine but preferably above the halfway mark.

Unlike previous cars, right from new, right before every service and right after every service, the oil level has always read max.

The problem with ‘max’ is you’ll never know if the oil’s overfilled and by how much.

I would definitely not do what the OP did though - the breakin oil is of different composition to promote a good breakin. Not a big deal as the dilution shouldn’t be too bad.

^^^ If it’s overfilled by enough to make a difference, you will get a message stating it’s overfilled. All cars are like this that have electronic oil level measuring functions.

My G82 is about the same level as yours when I pick up the car from the dealership
