Coming From Audi, need advice!

Hey guys!

This thread will be all over the place but hopefully you can track me.
I have a 2021 Audi RS7 and love the car and brand (Wife has SQ7) but it is time for a change. I got an allocation for an M3 and am going to do paint to sample Voodoo blue and I am really excited about it. Here are some of my issues/questions.

1. Anyone here have experience going from an Audi to BMW especially a big car like an RS7? I love the air suspension on my car and feel that the M3 will for sure be sportier but a little less baller if that makes sense. I never see my car on the road, like very rare, which I like.

2. I am very torn on interior color. I love the Kyalami and have seen it in person and still loved it, just not sure it goes with Voodoo all that much. Then it would be Silverstone or Ivory after that, which match the exterior color (not sure that matters).

3. Wheels - I have read through thread after thread about wheels. I love the 826 wheels but hate the 19's in the front. is getting an 826 rear set and putting them up front an option? I plan to lower as well and looking into the best options for lowering as well.

I told you this was all over the place but if you have some input for me, I'll take it.
Here is my RS7

Thanks,
JP

Welcome!
You're going to love Voodoo blue, it is an amazing color.

Can't help with Audi to BMW since I've never owned one.

IMO Kyalami with Voodoo is bold definitely compliment, here's an example of Enzian (Voodoo but a bit darker) with Kyalami: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1880677

Going all 20" is definitely an option, just also need to get the same tires for it, as a matter of fact a lot of people do all 19"/20".

Can try to help on two of your questions.

1) I went from an RS5 with a standard sports suspension to M3 Comp. This will likely be quite different than your RS7 but I can tell you although the suspension is stiffer the damping is better on the M3 and the handling is night and day. The RS5 is dul and front heavy, although it does have some positives. The M3 makes it feel like an ocassion every time I drive it.

2) I can’t imagine blue and KO ever not working. It’s gonna look great.

Best of luck!

While orange won’t go bad with blue it won’t look great either imo. I think silverstone or ivory will be the best match.
For the wheels yes you can put 20” in front but you might go better with leavint the stock ones for winter and buy some aftermarket 20” front 21” rear for summer (this is what i am going to do)

M3 is sportier and has stiffer suspension. You will feel all the bumps on the road but it makes up it for it.
If you choose performance and maneuverability over comfort and luxury, you wont be disappointed...IMO.

You definitely will not have that same baller feel. The m3 coming down the road does not have the same presence as an RS7. I have the same route as a new gen Nardo RS7, and while it great knowing I can keep up, if not beat it, I think more people are probably checking out his car than mine. Not sure if you care about that or not.

Thank you for this link, I know it's a different color but close enough to get an idea.

Prior to my RS7 I had an RS5 sportback and you are right the damping in Dynamic was horrible, it was soooo bouncy.

Some key differences:
Audi interiors are better. Look, feel, materials, experience. Not that BMW is "bad," but you'll probably miss that RS7 interior space after a few months.

The M3 will definitely be a sportier, more raw car. Good or bad depending on you and your preferences.

I have the Kyalami interior. Absolutely love it, and so does everyone that gets in the car. Silverstone is pretty boring IMO, Kyalami should be a nice complement to the blue.

Wheels -- 826M or bust. Best looking hands down. Are you trying to put 20" on the front as well?

In terms of "rarity," you'll see more M3s M4s on the road than your RS7 overall.
Yes, I would like to do 826's and have 20 inch wheels up front as i think the 19's on the M3 with the off road gap look ridiculous. You do definitely see more M3/4's on the road than RS7 but I still don't see that many, which is cool too.

I know it sounds vein, which it actually is but I do care about that. I do really love all the aftermarket parts and options there is for the M3 though, seems like I would have some fun modding it.

First off, the gap won't be any different with 19's vs 20's. The overall diameter is going to be the same if you went with 20's, as the tire would be a lower profile tire. Again, gap should be identical. Also, if you went with 20's up front your ride quality would suffer. How much is hard to say, but it would. I actually like the staggered look, but that's just me.

Can't speak to the newer Audis, but I did own a 2014 RS5.

The RS5 I assume is a bit more agile than an RS7 given the size and weight difference. I thought the RS5 was a sharp looking car. And the high-revving normally-aspirated V8 was phenomenal. But that's where the love affair ended. It felt heavy, wasn't that fun to drive, felt very sterile, and so on. Honestly, I couldn't wait to sell it.

The M3 to me is just so much more fun to drive and dynamic than the RS5 was. Night and day. I think if you love to drive, you are going to enjoy the M3 much more than the RS7.

But if feeling like a baller is your thing, maybe keep the RS7. That doesn't really enter into the equation for me. That said, I will say that I see very, very few M3's in the San Francisco Bay Area. They must be out there, but I think I've literally only seen 2 in the last 4 to 5 months. Maybe I just don't get out that much.

As for interior color, Kyalami, Silverstone, Ivory or Black would work. The Tartufo "might" go also. Hard to say, I'd have to see it. From the pics here, gotta say although I am typically not a fan of Ivory (mainly I'd worry about keeping it clean), Voodoo does look good with it!

I had a RS5. Audi makes a beautiful car but the BMW is just so much more fun to drive. You are coming from a much bigger car so the change will feel weird. I love the blue but would go with Silverstone interior. The blue and orange would be too much for me.

I went from the 19”/20” setup of the 826Ms to the 20”/21” setup of the 1000Ms and the difference is barely even noticeable with regards to ride quality.

I personally wouldn’t factor that into the decision to put 20” wheels up front at all.

I responded to you on Audizine. They are so different that I had to keep both. The M3 is the canyon carver and road weapon and the RS7 is the luxury crusier that can move when called upon. The RS7 is so much more comfortable and luxurious, plus the sound system is 10x better. The M3 drives and a handles much better and just feels so aggressive.

Had an ‘18 RS5. Beautiful car really but just felt a bit boring and front heavy.

Interior was very nice in the RS5. But the M3 with full leather feels more special. Also, I find the quality of the materials in the new g80 M3 and how everything is screwed together is a bit better/more upscale. YMMV.

M3 straight 6 is more lively and more refined/smooth than the Audi’s V6. Chassis dynamics/damping, rigidity, and excitement is much better in the M3. I always felt that it the RS5 had weird damping. Kinda of a hobbyhorse effect front to back.

+1.

I also switched out for 20" up front and don't really notice a difference in ride quality from when I had the 19".

I agree here too. I don’t even have the full leather and I would say materials are better than the ‘19 RS5 and the interior on the M3 is miles better looks wise.

Perhaps a closer comparison to the RS7 interior is my wife’s Q7 with all the bells and whistles (in Canada I think it’s called the Technik package). I would say the interiors are even in wow factor when you get in, with material quality being on par.

*Granted I probably have a bias against Audis given all the trouble my RS5 gave me reliability wise.

The last Audi I had was back in 2018 with a new S5 Sportback. Great car--sort of. Was boring, and I didn't care for it after a year. I've never had an RS car, so no feedback there, but if I had a 2021 RS7, I probably would not want to go to a G8x car. I think both the RS7 and RS6 Avant are amazing cars.

If you want something baller and more rare - I wouldn't give the RS7 up. That's your first bullet point.

With that said, the RS7 is still understated and I bet you will attract more attention in a G8X (if that's what you're looking for)

I would rather have the RS7 all day

I just sold my 2018 A7 w/ APR tune for a 22 M3cx and couldn’t be happier. I didn’t need all the extra space in the A7 although I did love it. I previously had a 16 S7, 19 RS3, & 5 different S4’s over the years. I love Audi. That said, not much can give you the same experience that the G8X’s can offer. Simple as that. It’s my daily driver and I go to the mountains in snow storms chasing powder regularly as possible here in Vermont. Get the extended leather and go for something wild. Enjoy!

I totally get it...and the BMW does get noticed. I get quite a bit of thumbs up and have had people follow me to take pictures. Mainly because we are in northeast ohio and there arent many running around. That being said, the RS7 is a BIG car so it carries the road presence that gets it attention....not to mention it is a sexy looking car plain and simple.

I have had several Audi's and several BMW
The G80 M3 is a great car but I think you are better off with an M5 "the baller aspect"
interior on M5 is more inline with RS7 as compared to G80. Better interior overall as you move up the model line on all of them
Silverstone or Black will be the only interior choices that match Voodoo Blue
if you want the orange interior then do Chalk exterior which will keep you in the VW family.

I have had 2 RS7's (14 first year and 17) and there is no way they drive better than the G80X but they have that unique polarizing look which one can either love or hate. The 14 had incredibly annoying torque steer but the 17 Performance fixed most of it with steering tuning. The issue was/is the engine placement where it sits over and in front of the wheels in part. Plus the tq splits are fixed which meant there was never 100% of the tq to just the rears like our M's. The G80 damper and chassis dynamics are superior to the RS7's (I had the dynamic spring suspension) but of course weight plays a big role.

It just wont ever drive as good but thats probably an understanding all should know about and especially the choice few owners here of both. Its still a great car but definitely not as lively and not even as tossable as my M8 or previous F90 M5. But damn it looks good to me.
