CSL tail lights from BayOptiks - anyone get these? Thoughts?
This came up as an ad on Instagram (while browsing as my car's Insta profile, lol) -- https://bayoptiks.com/collections/4-...s-2021-present
In some ways, it's better than the CSL lights (animations in turning on and off?). But I'm concerned about how little of the cluster lights up on braking and indicating relative to the actual CSL lights. While you can snag it for $1350 (with coupon code), I feel like I'll be fleeced at least that much in labor in Seattle for an install - this is the real hesitation-inducer for me, and then having to store the original lights. What do others think?

I would be wary about buying anything from an IG ad (that's not from a big-name brand).

So long as the taillights are plug-n-play, swapping them out would be easy. Swapped mine out for the smoked GTS style lights and it wasn’t bad other than the one pain in the ass bolt on each light.
That being said, I agree with ‘Cane about the vendor. Although I have seen several people on IG say they got their CSL style headlight LEDs from BayOptiks and seem to be pleased with them.

I worked for a tier-1 automotive lighting company.
I personally would never touch anything aftermarket when it comes to lighting... except for the parts that go on a trailer. |

tail lights are a pretty easy install. and these look to be plug-and-play with no coding required as well.
personally i am not a fan of stuff like this. i've been behind f82's on the street and from a distance you think there is a real CSL ahead in traffic. only to pull next to it and be disappointed its not, and that they are probably the cheaper replica tails and not real OEM. to each their own.

all of the aftermarket tail lights are not sealed completely and are prone to condensation and water ingestion issues. keep your stock tail lights - that's my honest advice after running the OLED gts style lights on my last G82

also - you can get those exact same CSL tail lights from the manufacturers on AliExpress for like $800 - BayOptiks is just a dropshipper charging you a premium

Only real OEM parts for me. None of that fake or style. Can't wait to get it installed on my G82.

Even OEM parts have numerous quality issues like component failures, poor seals, etc. (have you noticed a lot of Dodge Chargers on the road with premature DRL failure?)
I doubt the aftermarket companies have testing/qc measures like tier-1 manufacturers. I also don't think the light output is to spec from the design phase either. I've seen some 'OLED style' lights with poor light output, and went through some nightmares with my 'angel-eye' headlights on my old Acura back in my college days lol. Just my personal opinion but lighting components are not simple cosmetic parts. They're safety items. I wouldn't mess with it. |

It's not just the quality issues. I hope people understand it's not the same technology. First it was the FOLEDs and now the FLASERs. Haha it's like females buying fake bags.

I would even say they are dangerously dim, you can’t see them in the daylight from 20 feet back |

The part that seems bad to me which I don’t have a picture of is when you’re hitting the breaks or changing lanes. The actual brake lite/turn signal is the bad part, it’s honestly barley visible from 20-30ft back. The only saving grace is that the mirror signal is very bright for turning and the 3rd brake light is bright for stopping. |

But I can't say I'm 100% unsatisfied as a whole. I really like how they look, the build quality seems pretty good (no hint of condensation in mine), and I'm fine with the normal lights being dim as daytime running lights during the day. It's just that too-dim brake light that's an issue. So for me, I'm 90% satisfied, and hoping that a brighter brake light bulb will solve this (though I'm worried about the higher wattage of a different bulb causing an issue with the lights in general). I need to find out the bulb code of the rear brake light. |

I purchased the CSL style laser tail lights from Bayoptiks. I have them installed on my 2023 G83 for over 1 month already. I truly love them and they totally change the look of the rear end in my opinion. I am very OCD with my car and here are my only complaints as of today:
1) there is not a designated clear part for the reverse lights as the whole tail light is red so the reverse light is not that bright(not a deal breaker for me) 2) Fitment is about 98% as OEM and only thing is where the two tail piece meet, one sticks out just a bit(let me state again that I am very OCD and maybe the average person wouldn’t even realize this) 3) inside the tail lights there is a small manufacturing defect(some sort of spot)..really can’t see it but under the right light and angle you can see it if you know it’s there Overall I am very happy with the lights. Time will tell if there will be any issues with the seals and development of any condensation. Here are some pics the night I installed them(it was a little chilly that night so there was vapor coming from the exhaust so pictures aren’t super clear) |
