Turn off active sound design. It's a garbage drone that ruins music. With it off you actually hear the pops on the outside and the music is wayyy better with the right settings.

I will. Problem is for 2022 model bimmer code does not really turn it off. Known issue. They gave me a beta version yesterday and not supposedly does work. Will report back.

That's very weird because I have a 2022 M4 and I turned it off using BimmerLink (I also have Bimmercode but used BimmerLink), and the drone's not there. And the audio is good.

I know for sure the BIMMERCODE ASD issue is with G20 platform at least.

Bavsound website doesn't have a G80 to pick from but the system (HK 688) is exactly as the G20. No difference at all.
Do you still think Bavsound is worth it after having it now for a while?

I had BavSound subs in my 22 X3MC and a total waste of money IMO. Slight improvement in mid-bass but you’ll never get good deep bass with 8” subs.

Agreed. I thought stock ones sounded much better. The ghost subs where just louder and much tighter sounding bass. Total let down those where.

Adding an aftermarket amp to the OEM woofers will make them sound better than just replacing the OEM woofers with aftermarket.

I wrote the comment above in January 2022 shortly after taking delivery of my car in late 2021. I found that after 6 months of owning the car the sound was much better. I’m not sure if there was a software update or if the speakers just “loosened up”. I’ve been very satisfied with the HK system in two other BMWs, particularly the X5. After owning this car for almost 2 1/2 years, I think the G80 sound system is comparable to the X5’s.

From my experience with car audio this system needs a minimum of a good amp and a 12” Subwoofer. If I had the money I’d also add an Alpha 1 amp and replace every current driver with Focal kevlar drivers.

I’m pretty sure I’ll wind up doing the sub at some point. I don’t listen to music as much as I used to or I would have already gutted the interior and replaced all the drivers and added dynomat-type sound deadening like I have done on multiple cars in my younger years😂

You probably Just got used to it. I've had my G20 for over two years now, and I rented an X3 last month and the audio quality blew me away.

My g20 audio is lacking for sure.

Historically imo BMW audio systems suck. I have owned: 3 series, 5 series, X 3. & X5, and multiple M’s. I never bought any of those cars with the intention of having a good sound system. My wife’s new GLS has a nice factory system and my 2018 Infiniti RS 400 has a nice factory system as well. In the past, pre kids I would always go the aftermarket route to improve kids, highs, and lows, as I have aged my automotive needs have changed.

Does this plug inline with the factory amp?
Anyone have a DIY for this?

Would like to know the same. I would love a true plug and play upgrade. I can splice and solder, I just f'ing hate it.

Alphaone sells a plug and play upgrade but it’s like $1500.
