Disliking the color is fine but equating this color to what comes on a Mary Kay car is like saying Java Green and Forest Green look the same on a car (or anything, for that matter).

But I knew someone would say this because they couldn’t get over “it’s pink!” so thanks for being that guy!

Cool to have a unique car…although pink wouldn’t be my choice.

8% of men are colour blind. This thread is perfect example. Some dude say neo some say its rubystar, some say they are the same when photos show they are not, some posts a f.ckin m3 F80 with what clearly is neither rubstar or neo, and we have this fine gentleman who just says pink is gay and car is mary kay. Unreal.

OP - Individual colors are for individual tastes. And it looks like you NAILED your taste - way to go!

Many posts of asked, and I will do so again, what was the process? How do you create a color? And what is the price estimate? Not that I would ever do this, but I’m just curious. are we talking about $10,000 or $50,000? Congrats on loving your car. May you have it as long as you want it.

Porsche put this color into the mainstream similar to Audi with Nardo. I wasn’t man enought to go with it for my 911 build though. Shark was more my cup of tea.

There are no strings to be pulled, the request is put in a Bmwna individual specialist, which is then put through a whole approval process and r&d. It can take up to 16 weeks I believe to decide if the color can be properly reproduced and if they will approve it. There’s no additional deposit or money required. It costs what any individual paint costs. You must have a current allocation (which obviously requires a deposit).

Being an individual color owner myself, the only thing I can say is that the ONLY time men argue over minor variances in color shade, like when women discuss makeup, is when it’s the color of a car.

Otherwise we only seem to know the names of about 10 colors and everything in the world can be bucketed into one of those 10.

Interesting thanks

This whole individual colour thing, I wonder what stops a particular colour from being rejected?

Find this whole topic quite interesting as to what goes on behind the scenes in the approval process

Congrats on what is a truely unique car.

I’m pretty sure that the person that is the first to request an individual color and BMW has to do the R&D to see if they can produce the color does cost extra. I’ve read on here in the past, those colors were around $7,500. Given the fairly large individual color palette nowadays it isn’t often that someone goes with a color that hasn’t been done before by BMW but this would be an example of one so I would have to assume that the individual paid extra for BMW to do the R&D (although they’ve not replied to the question on several occasions now, not sure why not though…).

GOLFFRR was the first to do Grigio Telesto during the F8x gen, IIRC, and paid more due to the R&D.

Aside from it being an original Porsche color, BMW has made individual colors in the past from other manufacturers; not unheard of and you’ll pay a premium.

That being said, I cannot for the life of me understand why some people who order a new M3/4/5 don’t go the individual option. It’s an extra $5-10K and wildly worth it in my option.

The old days of the 2000-2013 ‘Individual’ program are sorta not around anymore, but the paint program still is and should be utilized.

Only reason I’ll ever buy a new M car ever again; paint code 399.

Well I recently connected with my Bmwna contact about a Porsche paint which has never been done and this was the response:

“I can open a formal special request with the Development Team for the Porsche paint, but I would need a valid production number and the manufacturer’s paint code. Research will take approximately 4 months, and if feasible, lead time would be 16 weeks. Pricing would be $4,500”.

Interesting! Perhaps they’ve dropped the charge for R&D then. That would be great if so and it is definitely something I’ll look into for my next BMW and doing an individual color. I’m fine with the $4,500 (or $5k on my X5) but any higher than that and I didn’t really see it worthwhile. The wait time sucks for sure but would be tolerable given the uniqueness that can be had by choosing a never been done (at the time) color.

Not sure what you mean by the old days of the program not being around. There is still the Individual Manufaktur program where someone can request individual interior options like different interior colors, deviated stitching, extra leather covered surfaces, etc. Most don’t seem to be aware of the program nowadays and it seems from the posts of people on here that do, most dealerships don’t seem to be aware of how to work with BMW on the actual requests or just dismiss the customers as they don’t want to put in the time and effort involved for it.
