Where is the front defrost?

I have a 2024 G80 with id8.

I know there is a button for max front defrost, but when I go into climate control, I don't see an option to move the air to the windshield. Am I missing something?

That...is the front defrost button. What else are you looking for? You should only have to use it for 30s to a min then you can hit it again for it to back to normal.

Like most cars and BMW’s of past, you would have the option of where you want to direct air. The defrost button is full blast and I only use that for extreme situations.

BMW auto climate control is unnecessarily fussy, IMO.

Front defrost is the button you're talking about. That's what the title of your post says: "where is the front defrost"

You should have left defrost out of the question and asked for 'how to direct air to the windshield' to avoid the confusion that is evident here.

You need to turn off auto to get those options. Auto always decides how to direct air by itself.

I’m not gonna lie, when I first got my car I couldn’t figure how to change the direction of airflow. My salesman didn’t know a thing and I lived with auto for a couples of weeks until I noticed I couldn’t turn the airflow off completely in “auto”……….then I discovered I really can control the direction of the airflow, I’M BACK IN CONTROL!!!!!!

TBH, I leave it in auto 99.5% of the time. I don't get the endless fiddling around when auto does such a good job.

I appreciate the input. Idrive 8 just complicated things. I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

I also miss the red-blue temp roller that’s been in BMW’s forever.

Oh well.

The red blue roller is still there. Climate control menu, then settings on the left.

I never understood the red/blue roller, even back in my F32. I have auto climate control in the car, why bother with it? Leave it in the middle and you get heat when it's cold and a/c when it's hot? Never been an issue.

I always liked it for long drives when having some cool air blowing on your face.

I find it useful in "shoulder" climates when, say, it's cool out and it's blowing heat, but there is a big sun load through the windshield. Even with tint, sometimes it's nice to get a bit of cool air in the face.

Likewise when it's warmer out, it may not be that "hot" say if it's overcast, but it's still hot and super humid. The climate may be doing a good job chilling the cabin to a comfortable temperature but I may not want it so cold on my face if there isn't sun.

That and the CD Player. Not kidding. I don't need it very often but last Friday the new Peter Gabriel album was delivered to my house as I was getting ready to go run errands. I would have loved to listen to it along the way. Darn progress.

I forgot about it for 2 months. Not hard to do as it's been 21 years since "Up." And, no, I can't listen to Spotify. Streaming makes my ears cry, even on our semi-awful HK systems. :-)

Well if you think you can hear a difference, you can listen on Tidal then, which gives you lossless streaming. Apple Music as well has lossless quality streaming now too.
