We are not even discussing mine or anyone else's preference but giving a purchase advice to the OP. Purchasing an XDrive is undoubtedly the smarter option as the majority of responses here stated. Now go on continue convincing yourself otherwise. |

I got the base for the manual. However, if I was getting a competition and lived in MI, I wouldn't even consider the rwd. Can you live with the rwd in a climate like Michigan, of course! However, to be able to switch between full rwd and awd for a little more money and 98 lbs of weight...no brainer in my opinion.

Respectfully, what version you want is irrelevant to someone else asking for objective reasons to pick xdrive over RWD.

I am driving an Audi Quattro S6 currently. Awesome car, great traction in all situations. Just not a lot of fun to drive.
I'm not buying the M3 for winter transportation. I have four wheel drive vehicles for that. Honestly, a front wheel drive car is more than enough for winter in MI. I'm really leaning towards 2 wheel drive. Not about the money ... it's about the fun factor for me. I've owned a couple of Z06's, a couple of ZL1's ... not the fastest track cars in the world but lots of fun! |

"Having trouble deciding whether I want the Xdrive or two-wheel drive competition. By all accounts I don't see a reason to not go all-wheel drive, but it just seems contrary to what s sports car should be ... Any opinions or experience that you can provide?" I think I both provided an opinion and addressed his comment that he has trouble deciding whether he WANT the Xdrive or RWD. but certainly, feel free to disagree with my read. |

Well, as I said, it's about which one will be more fun. I guess if it were free there would be no discussion, so maybe it is about the money ... I guess it boils down to whether or not it's worth it to me. I think it would be off 95% of the time ... |

Some need xDrive, some love it, some feel ballsy at the red light with an xdrive. And then, some would rather spend those 5k (actually $6k because without traction control option at $1k, going to RWD setting can get tricky) on something else… |

I feel from this thread a bunch of Audi Quattro fan boys bought m3/m4. The awd system In bmw is clutch based and will need regular service for the transfer case and the front differential every 30k not to mention tires will need to be purchased in sets of 4 like an Audi but bare minimum per axle. An example would be if you have put two new rear or two front tires on and in 4 months you have a nail in one and the tread depth is 7/32 you can’t just replace the tire with a nail. Last I would never own a pre owner awd car because of new owners usually never do proper maintenance. Plus all these owners swapping out rims and tires that won’t match the correct rev per mile from front to rear |

[QUOTE=BLKSAPPE92;30055344]Not speeking about you I also drove Audis I left the brand because of maintenance and how you need to purchase tires if one goes bad.
I feel from this thread a bunch of Audi Quattro fan boys bought m3/m4. What? Maintenance for 50k on my rs3 was barely above average and I was extra Judicious in fluid changes like every 20k. Was able to get most of my 4 tires to evenly wear throughout all kinds of driving and even some track days, and only bought 3 sets of tires in 50k miles. Diff fluid was like maybe a 300$ service. Same with DSG fluids. Only needed Haldex and ptu once. I expect about that with the M and that's over zealous according to the manual.

It appears that the G8x X-drive is 99% RWD unless the car calls for front tire grip. If that is the case, you're not missing much if you go RWD over X-drive for a street driven car--unless you live in an area with weather that will benefit from AWD.
It sounds like if you street drive an X-drive G8x, you're in RWD basically all the time anyways. Very different from full time AWD. That said, if X-drive was offered in 6MT, I would have gone that route. I'm still really enjoying the RWD car. The grip and corner exit is incredible. My F95 was X-drive and while it's an apples to orange comparison. I don't feel like i'm giving up anything by having RWD only. |

There is no right or wrong answer here. Only mistake you can make is getting something else altogether.
