Went to the dealer with a whatever happens happens attitude.

Dealer took my 16 F80 6MT out to get a Value and comes back with an offer of 38K!
I'm Very happy with that offer.

We did a build:
It was a little over $72K… I'm thrilled!

holy crap I'm getting a G80.

Then the sales rep comes back and asks me; "do you have another car to drive"?

what????

He said we can take your car today but it will be at least 6 months at a minimum before you get your car. Then the kicker; he says it could take a year. They have 7 people waiting on cars or in line before me.

I could get a crap car to drive for few months but a year… that's crazy

Is anyone waiting a year?

Six months seems to be the current estimate between deposit and delivery, though it definitely varies. Any individual paint or other options can definitely stretch it out longer, but some folks are lucking out. Of course, production itself is just one hurdle; many folks have seen stop-sales while their cars are sitting States-side awaiting missing components... YMMV, but if I were trading in a car (without a backup), I'd wait rather than selling it now and buying (then selling back) yet another car.

Your dealer is being honest. If you got an allocation immediately, you may only see a car in 4-6 months. My car was ordered in July. I may see it late this month or next. If I'm unlucky, then in 2022z

Next, add the time you'll be waiting for an allocation. If there are 7 people ahead of you and the dealer gets an allocation a month or maybe two, you could be waiting a couple of months to get a production slot.

6 months to a year seems reasonable given everything. If you want a better outcome, you'd need to shop around a different dealerships to see who has an allocation soon.

These kind of waits are why some dealerships try to extract 10-20K over MSRP.

I watch a lot of car you tubers and this one let me tell you, forget the m340 it made me think your just not living bmw ownership to the max unless you have a full M car

That E30 though is just breathtaking
