Awesome cars! I just sold my e46 m3 recently and I had a 335i sold that and got a 2020 540i as I needed a better daily and a truck. Beautiful cars

To me, what feels special about that car is not the power but the throttle response, especially when you hit arout 4k rpm and up.

And that's a car that you can push to redline without ending in jail instantly, which is cool.
Unfortunately, no, it is an SMG. I'm disabled (paraplegic), so a manual is not an option for me... But having driven it for the past few months, I have no issues with the SMG. I think it gets way more hate than it deserves. If you lift a little when it is about to shift, it's super smooth.

I took delivery of the G82 July 29, 2022. My post about it can be found here: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1983395

Finally, last March, I bought the 2005 M3. I've wanted one since the concept was first shown in late 1999. This one had only 19,700 miles on it when I bought it. It was a two-owner car from Louisiana and is completely stock with the exception of Pagid cross-drilled rotors and an AFE air filter. The original owner ordered it without the premium package (but with power seats), so it's a rare slicktop. I had it shipped directly to EAG; they performed some mechanical work on it and also identified cosmetic issues that I have since addressed. I highly recommend EAG. They were great to work with, super methodical, and know literally everything about ///M cars. The M3 is way slow compared to either the 440i or the M4, but it's really fun to drive and the engine sounds sweet, especially at its 8,000 RPM redline.

PHOTO DUMP:
Nice! Love It! One question, midlife crisis or just wanted to go in a shopping spree? You bought all the cars within a few months of each other.

Truthfully, it's plenty of pep for really anything you need around town.

IMHO, anything over 300 hp for the street is unnecessary haha.

Also, it's scary how large new BMW's have gotten.
I agree with all that you wrote. The M3 is plenty quick even 20 years later. Plenty of passing power on two lane roads. It's not instantaneous power like in the M4, but it's fun to wind that S54 out!

Fair question. So I sold my 2017 M4 three years ago and drove a one-owner, 52K mile E92 335i I picked up cheap Oct 2019 (pre-Covid used car price!). That allowed me to save money. I built the pictured garage in 2021 to house the then future M4. I was going to keep the E92 as my daily, but decided I needed something newer and more reliable because I sometimes have to travel long distances for work. So I sold the very clean 335i on Cars and Bids (and made a profit!) and bought the 440i.

Almost a year ago, the M4 came in and I thought I was good to go. Until I found myself looking at E46 M3s all winter... Cue midlife crisis. I just turned 46 and always wanted an E46 M3 (so the number matched!). I ran across this one on Autotrader one Friday night in March and the rest is history. YOLO, man. I'm good now, though... Haha

Very nice stable! From the garage itself to the fine machines it houses!

Just like man others have stated, I'm confident the E46 will age better than most car could ever imagine. Now we just need to figure out how to shoehorn all the G80 guts into one. Especially the S58...

The E46 is what got me into BMW and M cars. It is such a timeless design and will always be what I think of when I hear BMW. I love my G80 (yes grille and all!) but this design will never hold a candle to the E46 design, IMHO. Great stable of cars, OP!

Thanks and I'm with you 100%. I still remember standing in the grocery store, flipping through the car mags when the E46 M3 was brand new and on the cover of them all (in Phoenix Yellow). I love my G82 (don't love, don't hate the grills), but the M3 is the car I look back at more. The fender flares, the big mouth, the proper kidneys...
