Personally would keep the CS over the GTS, unless you were looking for a manual. That to me would be the reason to get the GTS, but a manual GTS will definitely be slower than a CS, and in everyday driving the BMW M cars always tend to deliver a bit more excitement and feel of speed.
To me, at this point, I would not consider a 992 unless it is a GT car. Once I got my first GT car, it made the regular 911s feel a bit mundane. I do still love my Paint to sample 991.1S as I have always preferred Porsches with NA engines.

It’s going to be awesome but $40k! Will be interesting to see if there is ADM post the initial ‘need to be first’ buyers.

Not sure what constitutes a big market correction but a $250k GT3 (average set of options) will be harder to flip or retain value/purchase price. And Porsche has continued to increase production of every generation of GT product. The base price has increased about $90k in the past 10 years. In addition to inflation, Porsche seems to be trying to increase the prices on its most desirable products so that Porsche gets the “ADM” and not the dealer or the buyer.

But the new GTS is about $200k so who knows…

It's interesting how the price differences between Europe and the US are different for Porsche and BMW. Comparison of starting prices:

M4 Competition

Germany: 102k Euros
USA: 88k dollars

992 GTS

Germany: 170k Euros
USA: 165k dollars

So the GTS costs almost twice as much as the M4 in the USA, while it costs 66% more in Germany.

Similar story in Australia, G82 LCI M4 Comp xDrive is AU$186,500 while the 992 GTS is $353,700 ($373k with AWD).

Probably an even bigger gap when 992.2 lands.

I just saw the starting price of the 992.2 GT3 in the US, the difference here is even bigger.

Germany: 209k Euros
USA: 224k dollars

So, the GT3 costs 105 % more than a M4 in Germany, while the difference in the US is 154 %.

This is true as there are quite a few CS’ available but the prices are dropping (same with the CSL) but is it worth the money to lose money twice? I think it’s best to decide which makes the most sense and make one move or none.

The GT3 and M4 are not really competitors. The Porsche GTS/GT3 prices are astronomical. Even a base 911 is almost 2x compared to a RWD M4.

Of course they're not, that wasn't the intention of my post at all. After someone posted the price of the 992.2 GT3 here, I just noticed once again how the price differences between Europe and the USA differ between Porsche and the other german manufacturers.

Those people that spend $300k on the GT3 are very different class of people from us spending $90k on the G8x. You are not supposed to understand them...

True!

Once you look past the ~$30K "base daily vehicle" price range, the price of a vehicle encompasses how much discretionary spending a person can easily afford compared to the additional features and gadgets that they want at their disposal.

I had 2019 M4 CS, ordered 2024 M3 Comp Xdrive but went 911 route. Had 911 S and now GTS. I feel it's missing something. The rawness i felt in the M4 CS. It's still too tamed. Maybe Turbo S or GT3 would be different.

If you have kids, it's a tight car!

I have the 2015 911 C2S, and it feels more raw than any BMW ///M I had since e46. Closest one would be the f87 (2021 that I owned and missed very much) in that retrospect, however, the sound, the handling/nimbleness is on another level. So far, really liking the 991.1 and is going to be a long time keeper for me.

Never owned/driven any of the CS/CSL Ms so cannot comment on that.

The 991.1S or GTS are some of the best modern 911s apart from any of the GT cars. It delivers all the elements of a sports/driver's car you could want. It always puts a smile on my face to drive mine as well.
The CS cars certainly edge more towards a 911 but they're still fundamentally different. The CSL in the past has been there to compete with a GT3 but the new CSL is more akin to almost splitting the delta between a GTS and GT3.

This is super helpful! Im a considering selling my M3CS and getting 991.2 GT3 with manual transmission. Will cost extra money to do this, but concerned if I should do it. Would welcome any of your suggestions.

The driving experience is different enough between the M3/4 and any flavour of 992 911, there's room for both in the shop if you can afford it. I know I won't let my Carrera T go and time will tell how I feel about the M4 but I was certainly impressed enough to buy one. If I want some N/A manual kicks, I have three flavours to choose from in my shop - GT products only make sense if you have great roads like the lucky ones from europe and southern US have or if you do a ton of track time, otherwise on mediocre roads like we have in Atlantic Canada, they are a bit boring to drive at the 3/10ths our roads allow.

Did not find so much difference when driving a 992.2 base 911 for a couple of days
The overall driving experience seemed pretty similar, the 911 feeling a bit slower due to only 400 bhp, and the throttle pedal not very responsive going from standstill

The 991.2 GT3 is ridiculous but in a good way. It's mechanical in sound in ways that newer sports cars (sedans) are not. There's also something about that 9k redline. It's special enough that I don't see it being sold. Love the M3 and it is my DD, but I could see parting ways if the next M3 was nutso.
