Carplay music stream is terrible though versus using the built in Spotify app so I think a lot don't use Carplay.

I stumbled across this as I was contemplating where to put my phone charger and after I decided to put my Magbak magnet strip to good use. Glad to see others had very similar ideology.
I have had a custom mount made from a Magbak base and a Belkin swivel mount that I made and used in my F80. Luckily there was a charger port under the glovebox area on the passenger side so I was able to tuck my wiring. Not the case with this platform. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=260 I actually stuck my Magbak magnet strip on the upper trim, then I am using the Magbak charger base (https://magbak.com/products/magbak-charger-car-kit) on that. It blocks the vent wheel but easily accessible if you take off the Magbak base. I ordered a female USB Female DC Converter Adapter Buck Module https://a.co/d/fxWaTDG Plan is to tap into existing wiring and try to run the charge cable from the Magbak base somewhere behind the vent and dash so the wire is somewhat hidden. My idea is to get something that can mount here.

Magbak is the only case and car mount to use. Won’t us those crapola vent mounts any longer as they’ve scratched the hell out of the last two cars (plastic vents) we’ve had.

I can confirm that mounting a suction cup in this area doesn’t effect the instrument cluster.

I'm thinking about putting this on the id8 screen in the blank spot,
https://a.co/d/gVaBUEN and/or this bc I have some concern with sticking weight on (and possibly hurting) the screen/monitor that literally operates everything besides gas/break/turn https://a.co/d/16FvQqq I very rarely use my phone in the car. When I do, I want it to be painless. I have the bucket seats, so I remove everything from my pockets. I typically just throw everything in the center console. But all cars should have somewhere to place ur pocket computer (phone) like Tesla does. |

Finally got everything buttoned up
Now all the wires are virtually hidden sans the small lead poking out of the trim and up to the Magbak mount. And if I need to add more charging cables, I can still use the 12V plug, the USB connector, or the USB-C in the center armrest |

Are you able to link to that angled flat USB-C cable? Also curious how difficult removing the vents was. |

Removing the dash piece was nerve wrecking because I was not able to see how anyone did it with idrive 8 but I got it moved enough to run the wire under the vent trim. I just got too handsy at the end and cracked the trim pushing a piece back together. If you’re careful, shouldn’t happen. I listed the parts (minus the cable) I used a couple pages back. The main thing was the voltage converter from 12 V to 5 V I also used some wiretaps |

https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Wire..._dp&th=1&psc=1 It's a little on the wasteful side since you're not using the Rennline magnet, and you're not using the LDINO mount, but it's worth it IMO. That Magback install looks very nice too, but the cooled charging base is definitely bigger. So this is a little more low profile. Will have to see if I even want a mount given I'll be getting wireless charger and will have car play. Last edited by Needsdecaf; 06-30-2023 at 08:21 AM.. |

Bought a nice long UGREEN USB-C to right-angle USB-C, and ran it tucked up into the side of the console to the rear USB-C ports. Works great and very tidy without needing any disassembly! Charger is a Belkin MagSafe one.

Can you post a pic with your phone attached? I just mocked up this exact spot, and it looks like my S22 Ultra would block the climate menu on the bottom of the screen, which would be somewhat problematic. |

You can move the magnet a bit further down so the climate button on screen isn’t blocked. I’ll try to grab a picture but I’m out of town for a while and I need another phone to capture a picture of my phone. I have an iPhone 12 btw

Magbak with Weathertech Cupfone. I’ve used Magbak for years. I don’t like the vent mounts as they scratch the vents up over time. Been having difficulty with iDrive 8 and placement of the mag stick. So I came up with this solution. Bonus is the screws are Orange on the back to match the interior.

Also you can rotate the phone in landscape mode with the Makbak charger and the AC button will be visible. |

LUNQIN Car Phone Holder for 2023 BMW 3 Series
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZRP1YS5...p_mob_ap_share I like it because it's plug & play, inexpensive, relatively clean looking, not in front of the vents, and the vent air flow adjusters are accessible. It does rattle a bit but no more than my uniden R7 on the blendmount. I don't care about charging. I keep the cord in the center console and pull it out/connect in the off chance it's needed. Finally, I also didn't want to add a magnet to my phone just so that I can use it with a mount in my car. ProClip might be the best, but 1) they didn't have their current version when I was shopping and 2) it appears to cover the passenger's left side torso air vent. |
