2023 M3 knock sensor recall

Just a heads up my 23 M3 comp x drive just got to the dealership today, was just informed there is a new open recall that came out this morning having to do with the knock sensors and the vehicle cannot be delivered until its fixed. Does anyone have any further info about this?

I just got the new/ today too for my knock sensor. Did they give you any expected eta? This was the email from the PCD today.

I called BMW customer relations, they said there is no fix outlined and no eta as of yet. I think this is going to be a long delay unfortunately.

Curious if they are already at the port in Germany will they ship them stateside and repair them here? Anyone know from one of the previous stop sales?

For a few stop sales in the recent past, vehicles were held up in US VPC for rework.

According to the part number, the knock sensor for our cars fits B46, B48, B58, B58TU, and S58 engines. So if it's a blanket part, it will impact more than just us.
But as of now it could have just been a bad batch of parts or they could all be bad. I'm still at VPC right now. Scheduled delivery is Saturday. So we will see if my car gets stuck there.

It covers just about everything BMW produces for vehicles produced between October 26, 2022 & May 8, 2023. Language is "certain vehicles" meaning not all

Mine went into QC on May 6th and didn’t leave until the 24th so hopefully if mine had the issue it was corrected then though I believe someone commented there was no fix yet. Pretty sure they are still producing cars so they must have changed something, right?

Your vehicle might have been stuck in QC for a different reason and its normal with any OEM. It could be part shortage, defective part or regular audit.

Typically, OEMs would not stop production for part shortage or defective component unless it's something really major. It's cost-effective to rework the vehicle post production instead of disrupting the production process and supply chain.

Curious about the dates though. My original production date was May 8th until the extended stay in QC. May 8th Just so happens to be the end date of affected vehicles that calbears posted. BMW must have changed something if it’s only encompassing vehicles built within a specific time frame, right? Ah the speculation. So much fun. Can I just get my car already.

Information shared by other members (and also speculations) make this whole process more interesting than walking into a dealership and driving out with the vehicle.

Could you confirm if you are seeing the recall through this tool? I'm not at the moment for my incoming M2 and I'm hoping that means it isn't effected.

Is your vehicle showing up on the recall tool?

https://bmw-recall-tool.netlify.app/

Like CodeSlinger my M2 is hitting the VDC today or tomorrow and although it falls within the effected production dates they’re aren’t showing up on the recalls.

I just put my vin in that tool and its showing 0 recalls. I don't know if a stop sale and recall are considered the same? Maybe that's why its not showing.

NOLABMW just said it probably wouldn’t show as it’s not a recall. Need someone with DCS to check.

this sucks.

Just got hit with this message from my CA also. My car is production week 11. Spent two additional weeks in the port in germany and an extra 40ish days at VPC (wheels had a recall and a whole set was re-ordered from germany).

Car finally makes it to the dealership today and boom stop sale hits.

I hope they can get this fixed quickly.
