IPhone as a digital key?

Curious since I haven't been able to get it to work - did the part shortages not allow for compatibility of an IPhone to work as a digital key for our cars?

I do have the wireless charging feature on mine as I added it to my order...

Not sure if some had the feature deleted or not but mine works, built in Jan/Feb. In case you’re unaware there’s instructions in the My BMW app, swipe left where it shows ‘Vehicle Finder’ under the locking buttons. There’s a Digital Key section in there.

I can’t see anything in the app with a digital key section…

Mine was built similar timeframe.

My October 1, 2021, build doesn't include wireless charging; but my iPhone works just fine as a digital key. It was easy to set up via the MyBMW app.

October build for me as well. Took delivery on 5/7. Got an email that evening with links to set up the digital key. The link took me into the Apple Wallet app to start the setup.

There was never a digital key option in the MyBMW app like some of the YouTube videos showed, nor does it show in app now.

Interesting, maybe there is difference among builds. What are the other 2 options you have in that horizontal scroll view? Looks like you have 4 total

Same here.

So yours does work?

I think mine needs to be set up in the Apple Wallet as well, but haven’t figured out how to do that and Genius wasn’t any help…

Do you see an option for the digital key in your car? Car -> Settings -> Doors/vehicle access -> Digital key

If you don't, then perhaps your car didn't come with it. If you do see it, I would delete your app and then re-install it. Restart your phone as well.

Yep, I have that.

I called Genius, they said my dealer needs to send a pairing email to utilize the Digital Key for the IPhone Apple Wallet. Genius was nice, but they were a bit confused on helping on this issue.

Ok, good. Sounds like your car has the feature and you're on the right track to get it set up.

pairing email is what I received a few hours after pickup. it worked and linked to Apple wallet very quickly. it was a one time code. once linked I got another email that allows me to link my wife's wallet to the digital key too.

Digital key. Not sure how it was hooked up. Genius did everything for me. I do know you have to have a BMW Connected Drive Account.
