Next Rick accused Mercedes and the FIA of colluding to make the new rules benefit then for engine penalties. I cited the FIA sporting directives from 2017 and 2018 showing this was not a recent rule change. I also cited the source showing engine failures per team in 2017 before the new updated engine replacement grid penalty rules. This showed the Honda engine was the one that failed the most at nearly twice the rate of Mercedes. So if anything the rule changes were made to benefit Honda. None of you guys provided any solid proof to back your statements up.

What about these controversial scenarios instead of crashes ?
Keep in mind: drivers: equal points | constructor's: 28 points benefit for Mercedes. Hamilton (P1) keeps pulling away from Verstappen (P2). Championship title seems to slip away from Verstappen's hands. Constructor's title seems lost too for Red Bull. Some engineering trickery happening down at the Red Bull team. Perez: "No power !" Red Bull team radio: "Checo, switch off engine now. Sorry mate." Perez parks his car on the circuit. DNF. Dangerous situation on track. Yellow flags - Virtual Safety Car. Verstappen catches up with Hamilton. Race between those two is on again. Interview with Perez: "Engine lost power. I could not box anymore." Verstappen (P1) keeps pulling away from Hamilton (P2). 1) pick a fighter with a back story that compels you, for example Francis Ngannou, grew up in poverty in Cameroon working the sand mines as a child, and then tried to escape to France through the desert and got caught multiple times each time facing the risk of being killed. When he escaped to France he was homless on the streets and then one day a boxing gym next to the local soup kitchen let him in to train for free and they saw he had god like power in his punches (he holds the record for the hardest punch out of any human of all time - well that was measured I suppose). Then he got an oppotunity to go the the UFC and the rest is history. 2) Pick a fighter with characteristics you like, for example: Max holloway and robert whittaker, both humble and chills guys and really nice people in general. But their fighting style is incredible with Max putting immense pressure that breaks people down, or Rob just putting incredible combos and devestating head kicks. 3) Pick just an insane unbelieveable character to ride the bandwagon train on, like Khamzat Chimaev, fought like 4 times in the UFC has been hit 2 times cleanly. Like HOLY CRAP how does that even happen? This guy is unbeliabely special. His back story is really good too. 4) Pick a fighter who has the style you like: Izzy for unbelieveable damn near comic book animated movie fighting style, like it is unreal his striking is next level with faints and precision. Or pick an unbelievable ground game specialist like Khabib, or Damien Maia. Or pick a well rounded fighter like Georges St Pierre and see the mastery of his stand up striking system where every strike's base is designed to look the same so it is hard to read, to reactive double leg take downs. Valentina is also incredible to watch, her style is just so silky smooth, everything is lightning fast and precise just wow. Nope I did not compete for fear of brain damage, trained a bit and might go back to rolling when Covid calms down. Might even head to a boxing gym for the sweet science, but again I want to avoid head trauma and your hands and fingers get effed up hitting the heavy bag over and over again. I do not bet either - if I did I probably would be broke because it is so hard to call fights. If I did bet it would be on Valentina and Nunes because they are so dominant (probably never on a male fighter because no one is as dominant as these two except maybe jones), but since these two are such huge favorites youd probably be making pennies unless you bet into the tens of thousands of dollars range.

But the only real way for mercedes to lose the construtors is if both mercedes finsihed outside of the points, or really low down in the standings. But overall there is probably no way it will be crazier than saudi arabia, that race had me on the edge of my seat rewatching it.

I’m just not that vested in sports. I still have friends that get legit depressed for a couple of days when the Vikings lose or inevitably don’t make the playoffs/get eliminated early if they do. I honestly don’t get how an adult can get that wrapped up in sports/racing etc to where it bothers them days or more after it’s over. Guess I’m old and boring. |

Teams can remotely tinker with lots of engine settings. Sometimes you hear drivers asking for more power or complaining about some malfunctioning. So an engine failure can be simulated by changing maximum settings to minimum settings. Of course it would be very unfair to pull the plug to provoke a Virtual Safety Car. But it's technically possible (just like a BMW going into limp mode: it's electronics). And, though morally reprehensive (abuse: sabotage the race to get an advantage), it's not as reckless as deliberately torpedoing a competitor (dive bombing with an unfortunate outcome: crash) or going kamikaze into a wall (remember Piquet jr. "Crashgate" of 2008 to give Alonso an advantage: see here). If foul play is involved and discovered, sanctions can be susbtantial for all those involved.

Also no engine manipulations are allowed by engineers, any changes to the car must be done via the driver through the steering wheel inputs. This is stipulated in the rules to prevent engineers from essentially driving the car. That's why hamilton failed the restart where he left brake magic on, because the engineers are not allowed to manually disable it and at certain points iirc a restart engineer advice to the drivers is not permitted as well so Bono couldn't remind lewis to turn off brake magic.

More track info and unexpected news
Not sure this thread is about F1 anymore, so my contribution to bring it back to center.
Circuit change highlights. The new Abu Dhabi layout still maintains the characteristics of a 'rear limited' track but to a lesser extent. Slight advantage to RBR. Average qualifying speed is expected to increase between 15 km/h and 20 km/h compared to 210 km/h of the 2020 pole. AND A surprise awaits the teams and Pirelli in Abu Dhabi. Following the renovations at Yas Marina, Losail-like kerbs were used. As Pirelli was not warned about this, there is a new uncertainty about the weekend. Imagine if the punctures we saw in Qatar happens in Abu Dhabi to Max or Hammy.

Curbs
Punctures, would you bet on one stop with this cheese grader.

a gravel trap is the best imo.

Actually, it's an appropriate way to remind drivers to use the track. I don't mind more grass and gravel pits next to the track limits. Less controversial discussions about track limits violations and gaining an advantage off-track.

So my preference is a smooth or mild curb followed with a gravel trap next to it with a bit of a gap so you can slightly ride the curb - but can't exceed it with all 4 wheels or you will enter the gravel trap.

I think they did away with grit boxes because of the spending limit teams have been imposed.
If cars are braking because they exceeded track limits, that would make costs rise. |

lol, not totally wrong. Generally I get about 7-9 hours of sleep but lately it has been in the 7 hour range. Bit of work to do before the holidays.
