Any idea what the G82/G83 LCI in 2024 will bring?
Hey folks. I just placed an order for a G82, but I'm also curious what the LCI coming 3/2024 will bring.

Most likely updated lights and a few more available options/colors.
As mentioned in that thread, they will update the 3 Series to iDrive 8 with the in LCI 7/2022. It’s not clear yet whether the M3/M4 will also get it then or not until early 2023 when the 4 Series does. Either way it'll be before its LCI, and if these images are correct, it looks like they copied Mercedes who literally just changed their interiors because they sucked (disclaimer - they may or may not have changed it because I think it sucks), and it's beyond awful!

If it was in some kind of console I wouldn't hate it but it looks odd to have that long screen just sitting on top of the dashboard...hopefully we can chalk that up to 'its a concept photo' ergonomically I like it much more than teslas touchscreen system that takes your eyes way off the road.

I'm buying an M3 and was planning to wait for the LCI since it's just one year away. But, if they are planning to update both the M3/M4 to the bolted on curved screen thing with the 3/M3 LCI rather than in 3/2023 with the 4/M4, that would move up my timeline.

Yep. Same happened for the E90 M3 and F80. BMW's unnecessary insistence on delaying the M3 to release with the M4 Coupe means its LCI hits just a year after release. First year G80 buyers will suffer a big depreciation hit just like E90 M3 and F80 year one buyers did.

Thinking LCI is valid.
Take the M2 as example, MY2016 came with very outdated ID4 which immediately was replaced by MY2017 among other noticeable updates (significantly better audio system). Then the MY2018 is the LCI with all new interior and way better LED headlight for a significant aesthetic improvement. However, the biggest hit was the MY2019 with the S55 engine and other performance upgrades under the competition package. I believe some still remember how hard it was for anyone to get an M2 allocation in 2016 when it's first landed to the US. My point is: 1) In early 2016 just wait a couple month for the My2017(SOP from July 2016), you'd get a significantly more modern car with ID5 (upgrade-able to even later ID6 lite). 2) If you know what's coming for the MY2018 LCI (from July 2017), you're able to make informed decision as to wait or not in early 2017. 3) If you know MY2019 gets the S55 I believe the most would wait. Heck I'd even pass the M2 altogether and get the 991.2s should I know it. The F87 M2 is an example how important it is to know(not necessarily to wait) what's to come, which influences the decision in a big way. I have a strong feeling the same or even more will go to the G80/82. For example: 1) In my opinion the S58 is very flawed with turbo lag which potentially would get fixed (to some extent) by getting a ISG system. 2) I also believe the ID8 will instantly make all older system very obsolete. Something once you see you can't unsee. 3) Cosmetic has always been a big issue and maybe bmw is going to do something about it. Let's look at G30/F90 LCI, which brought a significantly cooler laser headlight, and a revised bumper, something the G80/82 would die for. 4) Again, look at F80 where you realize that the LCI model just has a bit of everything better and make for a noticeably all around car compared to earlier years. For the G80 you're not going to wait half the life cycle. Just one year with the LCI.

With regards to idrive 8 the big thing we should all be watching for is the i4 interior, to see if they watered down some of the implementation for something closer to a series vehicle. The iX is a flagship technology demonstrator and should be a bit more over the top. I expect to see more hard buttons and more traditional interior layout but with the connected screens. I4 interior spy shot looking a bit more traditional: |

The switch to S55 probably would have never happened if the new regulations didn't kicked the other engine out...so probably not even BMW knew this when working on the OG M2... On the other side, I think ID8 won't happen that soon on G8X, at least not with the single display layout, it is never mentioned in any talks about what models will receive it... IMO I believe the new dash won't find its way into the M cars so soon or at all...as those are still more driver focused cars, where ID8 clearly is not focusing on, here I see a similarity to Mercedes, the C63 as an example never received the new curved dash despite facelifts after the dash had been introduced to other models...instead it gets the complete new layout now introduced with the S class. |

1) Contrary to your assertion, the 3 Series and 4 Series will not be getting this at the same time. 2) Nothing is firmly known so far about when the M3 Sedan and M4 will get this. 3) Although 2) is the case, the same source has mentioned that the M3 Touring will have iD8 when it launches in November 2022. This means one of the following is true: a) Just the M3 Sedan will get iD8 at G80 LCI, while the M4 models will get it 3/23. b) The M3 Sedan and M4 models will get iD8 at G80 LCI. c) All M3/M4 will get iD8 November 2022. d) The M3 models will get iD8 November 2022 while the M4 models will get it 3/23. e) The M3 Sedan and M4 models will get iD8 after November 2022. f) The M3 Sedan and M4 models will never get iD8 even though the M3 Touring does. g) He lied! The M3 Touring won't actually get iD8 in November, nor will any M3/M4, and in fact they never will. The last three are so unlikely as to be present only for completeness, particularly (f) which we could legitimately put at 0%. |

I generally think of all the forums on this site the G8X crew should be giving BMW some benefit of the doubt that they know what they are doing and once experienced most will come around to this new design..... I for one don't love the implementation in the iX as a match for how I interact in car but I understand it and will reserve opinions till I see the implementation in the G2X/G8X interior.
Ultimately this is just an evolution not revolution... they had to figure out how to jam bigger screens in and wider is the easiest direction.... It's going to have no effect on whether I purchase an LCI or not. Really the #1 thing on my wishlist for LCI is the 48v mild hybrid. It is legit excellent paired with the b58 and from what I am reading in driving impressions would be perfectly suited for the s58 to add some instant torque as the turbos get to work at low rpm |
