iDrive 8 is reportedly locked down and cannot be programmed like previous generations. Possibly to support functionality like this.
This also means that coding for things like anti-dazzle and variable light distribution will end with iDrive 7, unless and until iDrive 8 is cracked. Which will probably be detectable by BMW and have some limited consequences with the warranty.
