Smile JB4 G5 Log need advice / suggestions

Just went out and logged a few 3rd gear pulls from 40-100.

I had some issues last week in map 5 with what felt like a misfires at WOT which ultimately resulted in a SES and limp mode. This was, needless to say, a bit disconcerting. After speaking with a tech that had worked at a BMW garage and detailing the situation to him he thought it sounded like compressor surge. I had never heard of this on the forums with respect to the N54 but agreed that his suggestion of an intercooler at this stage might not be a bad idea.

After connecting my laptop to the usb through the glove box (BTW this was a bit arduous but plenty worth the grief) I was up and running on the software.

Reading DME codes indicated a cylinder 5 misfire, after deleting codes and logging a few map 1 pulls (which I have stuck to since the SES) the code did not return.

Below are a few screen shots of excell charts I put together, as well as the csv files.

First Pull

Second Pull

I've been trying to search around and acclimate myself to all the terms and normal behavior of these engines and what I may expect at this stage.

My goal is to be able to accurately read/ diagnose and gain a firm understanding of the best way to maximize this tuner.

The last car I owned was a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 which, while I did plenty of research on tuning, I kept stock. Since last summer, when I bought it, I have thoroughly enjoyed the luxury and ultra-sleeper sportiness and am looking to build a bit of a daily driver / rocket ship. This is my first forray into tuning so, as one could imagine my understanding is somewhat limited in this venture. Any advice or suggestions on first time general tuning information / threads / reads are much appreciated.

Everything looks quite good but you could do with some more octane. The DME is pulling quite a bit of timing to ward off detonation. I wouldn't run Map 2 as its only going to get worse. Do you have access to E85 in your area? A 20% mix should be a good place to start to help ward off massive timing corrections. Otherwise, everything looks good judging by your CSVs. Have you changed spark plugs or swapped coil packs on #5? PS. graph captures from the JB4 app are easier to read

No E85 in NH but I have 100 octane right down the road

Also, haven't moved coil pack yet, plugs were new 5-6k/mi ago.

Was thinking of going a step cooler.

Pity you don't have access to e85. I understand 100oct is quite expensive and may be prohibitive for a daily driver. I'd suggest going a meth kit next which provides you with much needed octane and also keeps IATs lower than even the best FMIC, especially under long periods of full load. Meth kits cannot be beat for BFYB in situations like yours if you're willing to go down that path. You'll get great results with a properly set up meth kit. The JB4 has excellent meth integration. Btw factory plugs are more than adequate at this stage. You may have a weak coil.

Just swapped coil packs from 5 to 2, used map 5 to replicate the conditions that caused the misfire code and had it show up on cylinder 2.

A new coil pack in and the engine was running better than it has been in maybe 2 months!

I am still under a 3rd party warranty so meth might be off the table for a while, but sounds tempting.

Thanks for the input.

Attached is another 3rd gear pull, this one seemed to hollow out in the mid-range.

51 Deg night with rain. OL set to 75 and self corrected to 74 after a few days. Future use A set to 2.

Thought excel would make the graphs easier to read, did not happen haha.

ignition looks bad. run map 5 and let it adapt you can also set 15 as max boost if you are not using 100 octane.

Running 93 octane. This pull was done at 68 degrees ambient and is also 40-100 in 3rd, map 5 max boost set to 15psi.
