USB aux in .. don't have it?! self built-in possible?

Hi

In my bimmer (e92 335i introduction) I don't have a usb aux in adapter
I can install this option at the dealer for 400€!! .. this is absurd.

I was wondering how much work is it to install the usb adapater in my console.
On ebay I found this adapter for e92:

Just buy this and replace it with my aux in ?? and it's going to work??
Or is it some more work to fix this?

It's not that simple. You need additional hardware and coding to make it work. Send an email here http://www.bimmer-tech.net/ for a more detailed explaination

The picture on 1st post of this thread shows BMW Aux & USB ports and the USB appears to be closed, does that slide and open when inserting a plug or how does it work?

Hi guys,
This thread looks awesome. I just bought a 2009 335 coupe with iDrive. But it only came with a "Dual Aux" socket in the center console (see this http://www.a-tack.net/products/__dual_aux/index.html).
I wanted to change it for a USB-Aux socket like the one on this thread. Is it simply a case of changing the plug? Will I have complete control over the iPod through the iDrive system?
You guys are the experts now.
Thanks in advance

ever heard of Dual Aux?

Hey guys,
This thread is exactly what I'm looking for.
I just bought myself a 335 coupe with iDrive. But it only came with a "dual aux" 3.5mm socket in the center console. If I exchange it with the USB-Aux socket, will I have complete control over the iPod through the iDrive computer?
You guys are the experts now!
Thanks in advance!

I'm in the same boat.
I want USB Connectivity and I'm not paying £400 for it.
I've even thought about using an old 3GS and getting a media phone connector at £90 but this would be so much more ideal for me.
Thanks

So is it technically possible? Have you asked?
What the hell does "Dual Aux" mean? Dual? how do put two MP3 players in at the same time?

It's must be possible as you can retrofit them but I'm not taking my stereo apart.
My other fix is a maybe if my car accepts the media snap in adapters I don't want to be limited to my old 3GS though, I want iPhone 4, iPad an iPod connectivity.

So does this work? Does it support USB hard drives? And can we get a DIY?

Not sure what you guys want to do with it, but I've since got Bluetooth Audio piece that hides in my console and plugs in the audio aux.I can stream music from my phone to it.
Best part is it was only $40

We all want steering controls.
I've got a long lead so it sits on the passenger seat, I just don't want to look at my phone while driving!
Hence the media adaptor or a USB integration for less than the dealers

Has anyone done these mods without installing a massively expensive usb device in place of a multi changer or paying the stealers?
Labour is £106 an hour in my local place so forget paying that!
I could just buy a media adaptor but need to talk to sales and to be honest I'm sick of my local BMW at the moment, they were meant to do a refurb on my alloys and forgot, now I've got to take it back again

Hi roadmax,

I read that you managed to mount this USB/AUX Interface.
Could tell in steps how did you do that and what did you need?

Thank you
