ebay auction - asshole didn't pay

I listed my Macbook Pro and the frickin' a who won didn't pay.
I wasted 3 weeks of my time, have to relist it, but to me the worst is
there is nothing ebay will do to this ass. He will have a "didn't pay" strike,
but it's not even visible for everybody. Is there anything I can do?

Strike is all Ebay will give them. How much you are trying to get rid of it for?
I am not a Mac computer person but I might have some one interested.

if more than one person bid then you can give a second chance offer to the second highest bidder.

I did offer the 2nd chance, but the guy didn't respond.
It's annoying as hell you can easily break the contract and get away with it.
Not only that, he will be on ebay still and they don't care.
ebay is all about buyers now, when I sell something expensive,
I have to wait to get my money! There is so much room for being
scammed by buyers and there is no defense.
I will be fine, had tons of watchers and bids.
Sorry, don't want to sell it here, will pm you the auction if you want.

You will not get scammed if you know what you are doing.

What's changed recently is paypal will hold the payment until a tracking number shows it's been delivered, after which they are supposed to release the funds (I've had to call on all accounts so far).

After this, the buyer can still open a claim and say that they received a brick in the mail, after which paypal will review the case and let you know what they decide.

Basically, as a seller, you need to deny bidding to anyone below a certain amount of feedback (say 5), since if you don't, you'll inevitably get scam accounts with 0 feedback bidding with obviously no intention to pay. But, if you clearly state you don't want this in your listing, you can ban these bidders from your listing by going here http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyan...ancel-bid.html

This way, you should (hopefully) end up with a high-feedback bidder as the winner, avoiding any non-paying problems.

What you should do is not list items as auctions. You pay more of a final value fee, and you risk wasting your time. Just use buy it now, accept offers if you're looking to sell quicker. As a buy it now, you should always check the option 'immediate payment required', and this will prevent anyone from 'buying' your item, and not paying immediately. Through these BIN/offers, I often make an agreement to complete the transaction outside of eBay and pass on the eBay fee savings to the buyer, also makes the whole process easier as I don't have to deal with the eBay 'funds hold until delivered' crap.

I guess you can PM me with questions, I've been battling with eBay and PayPal (same company if you didn't know) for about 3 years now. I've sold a pretty high volume of goods, most internationally, and have never been successfully scammed out of my money, and have had quite a few 'buyers' try.

All good info, thanks! This moron here has like 30 good feedbacks,
the problem is you get one good feedback for buying a 50c nail
and one for buying a computer. Makes no sense.
I know about the tracking number, I've been doing it and it kind of worked.
But ebay used to be fair for both parties and they decided they needed
much more buyers to make money, so they shifted the balance
and now only buyers are protected. This sucks.

I chatted with their rep and she admitted its's "frustrating". Duh!
It used to be really good, I was selling my snowboards every spring
and getting the new ones every season. For very little money.
But then tons of stores hit ebay and tons of scummers
and it went downhill really fast... Plus it's really expensive now,
9% of $1000 plus paypal fees, that's like $120 for a $1000 sell. Crazy.

Sorry dude but sometimes you win an auction and then things come up and people can't pay. Just let it go and relist, you may get more this time. At least you didn't send it off, nothing major to be upset about here.

Did you relist it yet? What is the auction ID or what is your eBay userID so we can follow it?

Also, do you have the old item ID?

+1 on the ebay hate
1speedbike - I thought I'd put your accusations to the test so I went to eBay and listed an older iPod with a 1 cent starting bid and no reserve. Here are my listing fees. (See attachment)

yea I hate ebay as well, but the statement about fees with no reserve etc are not true

(though they do take a nice chunk of change via a % on the final value...)

I relisted it and it sold already.

Yeah, they have tons of "promotions" going on, so you think
you don't pay for "buy it now" or insertion, but you forget
how much you pay at the end. Pretty unbelievable...

I think it's really time to start something new, using facebook
and twitter it would be quite easy to promote it and people hate ebay
so much, it could be successful.
