Taking my car to a DynoJet tomorrow.

Going to a shop called, "Lopers" in the central Phoenix area. My boss has a vette he takes there and says they know what they are talking about. I called this guy today and I asked how much for three runs. He said they won't be doing just three runs. He said they will run it until they get an average. I assume he's going aiming to heatsoak my stock FMIC?? I didn't really understand that because I'm not requesting he tunes my car as I have a proceed on the way. He also asked if I have an O2 sensor bung on my car. I told him its all stock. he said they would install one. I think he's talking about hooking up a wideband in order for the dyno to work right. Anyway, he quoted me $200 for what I assume to be many runs. Anyone have any thoughts? Oh yeah, he also mentioned their dyno is calibrated every morning and I'm going in for my baseline.

Only mods I have on my car that could effect the dyno outcome:

19" VS7's
STETT CAI
******** BoV/Chargepipe

No need to run the snot out of the car with 90 runs either; get your baseline after a few runs with cool down time (and a fan on the IC) and call it good. 3 "baseline" runs at any dyno here in Minneapolis is 75 bucks including strapping the car down.

This is a good read to prep:

Don't forget to post your results!! Make sure they run STD correction too so people can compare better here

Nick

So basically I need to get him to just put the sniffer in the right tailpipe, do a partial pedal up to 2k rpms then floor it without hitting the kick down and this needs to be in DS mode 4th gear? or M4?

And I'll need to pull the engine cover off so I can get a tach reading? I don't know if I have a usb drive. I had a 16gb voyager but someone jacked it from me.

$200 is way too much, tell him you just want 3-4 pulls, should be $60-80. If he knows what he is doing, he should know about the AFR reading from the tailpipe, and remind him of the kickdown switch..

I agree with the above posters - his method is really overkill for what I believe you are going for. Couple runs for 60-80 bucks and call it a day.

Yeah, 8mm hex if I remember - you just need to remove the front two and put his tach probe on the bundle of wires on the coil. I didn't know what I was doing and was able to make it work - lol.

The reason for the USB stick is to get the run files. If you can't get them oh well (maybe he can e-mail them to you if he's a nice guy). I think the best advice I could give is just let him do the job from there and try and stay out of the way He's done it a million times and doesn't need to hear "well, I read on the internet..." Just point out the specifics on the car (sniffer in right pipe, and don't hit the kick down switch) and you're aces.

Of courese, don't forget to post your numbers for all to see and pick apart!

Nick
Ok thanks everyone. How big are the run files anyway? Size wise.

Noooooooooooo. Lopers is run by a bunch of hillbilly jerk offs that only know things like magnetos and solid cams... Do yourself a favor and NOT go there.

No clue on the runfiles because I didn't know you could actually get them and manipulate correction and smoothing. Ask for STD if you feel like he's not in some big ass rush like the first time I went.

Nick
I bought a 4gb usb stick because I can't find my old one I paid like a hundred dollars for on newegg. How long should I wait between runs?

Oh well, it's a dyno and the car is stock - not much can go wrong...

My point was more of a concern for a low car, my personal desire to use the same dyno for subsequent runs, and a general disdain for Johnny Loper and all of his jackhole employees that look down their nose at anything not equipped with a Holley Dominator carb.

Is it really that bad? Because I'm scheduled to go there in the morning and its literally right down the street from my job.

There were like 6 posts from the same guy. Then a mod tells him no one cares he's dead.

Yes, it is. Just drive by the building. You wont want to stop there. Unless you're in to topless bars and pawn shops.....

$200 is insane. I paid $40 for 4 runs last week. Anything more than about $75 and you're getting raped.

Tampa / FL in general is a lot cheaper than most places in the US. I'd say 75 per hour is more the norm. BTW where in TPA did you dyno ?

I went by there this morning. They had 2 supercharged camaros there and some sand buggy. I had them install the o2 bung anyway and dyno the car. I paid 200 bucks and he said I could do as many runs as I wanted. I ended up doing about 10 all together. about 5 and them 5 more later after it cooled down. He was actually really cool. Complimented the car and the power it made saying it wasn't bad at all. He had a shop camaro that dynos about 770. I paid the money because it was close, about a half mile from my work and I don't care to go down to scottsdale. Next time I'm gonna talk to him and tell him I prefer to just do a couple runs for less but they did a good job and made sure everything was tightened down and down the right way. I think he charged me way too much but they weren't rude or anything like that. Definitely some domestic guys, but they weren't negative to me bringing in my bmw at all. In fact when he was under the car on the lift he mentioned how they really designed it well and didn't take shortcuts.

So enough with the blabbering. The best hp runfile and best tq run weren't saved. But I got 275 hp on one run, and 293 tq on the second. It was about 63* and 6-7% humidity. STD correction 1.04 with smoothing set to 5. I couldn't figure out how to get the drf exported, only a picture. So I had him print the runs off individually and then combined. here is a bad picture with all three runs he saved initially from the first 5 pulls. As the car got warmed up it started making more power. By the way, no fan was used either with these runs. I think maybe he forgot.

Vids coming next.

pretty awesome. your car is within specs... actually it's out of spec. 297 tq at the wheel. the sticker should've said 350 crank torque.

I like the way that intake sounds! Sounds like a jet when it's ramping up.

I still don't understand why people install BOV's on these cars. They are designed for DV's. Putting in BOV's is only going to hinder performance. Do your research, Put on some forged diverter valves and leave the "cool swoosh sound" to kids with honda's.
