Need Help: What’s Hurting My 60–130 (Intakes vs Wheels)?
Hey everyone, I could really use some solid input on improving my car’s 60–130 performance because I’ve been getting a lot of mixed opinions.
Right now, I’m trying to figure out what would actually make the biggest difference. A few people have told me my setup might be holding the car back, specifically my BMS top-mount open filter intakes. I’ve been considering switching to the AMS intakes with upgraded inlets, but I’m not sure how much of a real-world gain I’d see. On the other hand, some friends are saying my wheels might be the issue. I’m running 20-inch Vossen wheels with Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires (285/30 all around), and they think the weight could be hurting my performance. At this point, I just want to focus on what will actually improve my 60–130 times in a noticeable way. If anyone has real experience with either intake setups or lighter wheel setups on similar cars, I’d really appreciate your advice. |

What downpipe, what midpipe?
Which 20" Vossen wheels? Are they big chunky heavy ones? What ethanol content were you tuned for when Bend was working with you? Are you logging any of your runs via mhd to see what your engine is doing? Last edited by codean; 04-11-2026 at 04:25 PM.. |

Also yes I looked at my logs I have a very small amount of boost deviation like 1.5 which I just suspected was normal |

People overthink this stuff!
![]() Since when has running a 5.7s at these mods considered not performing well? ![]() People going quicker on like for like mods, are either leaning harder on the engine or stripping weight. It's that simple. You need to strip a decent amount of weight to make a difference as well.

5.7-6.1 (60-130) is on par for a safe custom tuned e55 map in variable conditions. Yes, your heavy wheels/tire combo and top mount intakes may play a role in your times. Just dont be disappointed if you get front mount intakes and your DA climbs to 3000 the next day and you're slower. If you want to go faster, add PI. If you want to go even faster, upgrade intake manifold and turbos. I can keep going on and on.

I’m not sure what wheels your stock ones are but rule #1 when it comes to aftermarket wheels is you NEVER buy ones that are the same or heavier than your stock wheels when spending money on them. Wheel weight will definitely make a difference in response and acceleration, even from a roll and at speed. Despite some of the bs out there trying to disprove this, I know from first hand experience that it does as I’ve seen it on my own cars over the years, so if you’re concerned about function over form, don’t go backwards on this and buy heavy aftermarket wheels because they look good. That said, shitty intake setup will cause some issues too, so that should have been initial research before buying, like everything else.
The engine is an air pump, so anything to improve upon and minimize pumping loss is a good direction to take. On the wheels, it looks like those wheels could be as much as 4-7 pounds or more per corner, depending on sizing and depending on what you came from. Did you happen to weight them when you got them to make sure you were shaving weight off each corner rather than adding on? |

Douglas and Ian know their stuff!
5.7s is well in to the 700whp+ category. There’s nothing to complain about that and simply put the chassis is just heavy. I’m sure you can squeeze another 20 to 50 wheel horsepower out of it. But it best you might get into the 5.2-5.4 category. I don’t know if that’s worth it! Take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I have blown up an s58, bent the rods asking for more. Thankfully, I was able to resleeve it and use my block! No, I was not on stock turbos. I was on a 6870 and NO Bend was not my tuner.
