Charger attached while re-flashing.....?

How often do you keep charger on when re-flashing a tune? Anyone here bricked an ECU w/ a long flash? How about recently? Flashing any* tune lately (MHD or BM3) seems to take less than 10seconds.

?

Takes 3 minutes at most so not needed, maybe during coding which can last 30 minutes then i'd use a charger.

What I figured - at a shop recently and got the...if you don't "you'll shoot your eye out" type warning. Cannot count the # of times I've done it w/o a charger.

the risk is mainly on older cars with older batteries, especially if it not a lithium battery, the power draw on the battery during flashing can cause the voltage to drop below the minimum requirement for the ECU which can fail the flash.

the chargers that most people have at home will do literally nothing to help with this anyway, and the risk when flashing a single ecu for a few minutes max is very low.

a full vehicle flash like what can be done with esys or ista can flash many modules in the car simultaneously and the power draw is much higher, so it's asking a lot more from the battery in that case.

lastly, all of the ecus in the car are highly resistant to be being permanently bricked. a failed flash due to a power loss will be recoverable in almost all cases.
