Smile First ever track day at Mosport with 2025 M4 CS. Had a blast and a personal best.

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Mosport is a legendary track that has the highest average speed of any track in North America. That's my sales pitch over.

I got close to 160 kph average speed on my fastest lap. Do you know what that means? FUEL CONSUMPTION. I filled up right before I got to the track, and by the end of the day, I had filled up the CS to the brim two more times. Worth every drop though.

I was on Apex VS-5RS wheels, 19x10 ET12 all around. Fresh Nankang CR-S tires held up exceptionally well with really good steering feel to boot. 285/35/R19 all around. They fit more like 295s since they are extra wide. Plenty of grip and good life. Needed about two warm up laps each time to get the tires up to pressure (33+ PSI).

What a fantastic experience though. The track is fast and flowing. It rewards smoothness above all else. You can see in this video that lift off oversteer can catch you off guard.

My best time was 1:32.27. I wasn't recording when I got that but here's the second best lap I did. I reckon 1:30 flat is possible with my skill level if I optimize the lines and be even smoother.

PS: Almost ran over a red squirrel on the back straight. Little bugger jumped on the track out of nowhere. That incident is not shown in this particular video.

Edit: Second Visit to Mosport a few months later

Yeah, I'm hitting the same top speed as a C8 Z06 with the Z07 high downforce package, about 255 kph.

991 GT2 RS driven by Lars Kern hit 265 kph on the back straight on his fastest lap. You are on full throttle for so long.

DDT, or the GP track again. GP is really suited for big power and downforce. Something like a C8 ZR1 is gonna absolutely murder anything with 4 wheels.

DDT favors light weight, short wheel base, and strong brakes.

Surprisingly, the CS, and to the same extent, the Comp XD, both do real well on these two diametrically opposed tracks. Speaks to the versatility of the G80 platform.

Would have loved to have seen the times on stock tires and wheels as the double staggered setup that comes on the CS is tuned to help the car pivot. I’m not sure if you have times from the stock tires and wheels.

@48 seconds is perfect example of keeping your cool, patient yet quick and feeling the car out. Still learning this skill on the track.

I uhhh burnt the stock front tires which were Cup 2 Rs within 5 laps of Cayuga's TMP. Video here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr5Bt6uUBIQ

Admittedly, I was quite harsh on them for those 5 laps but that's just the nature of Cup 2 Rs.

I did replace both fronts with OEM Cup 2's and went to DDT a week later. Here's a video of that:

In terms of peak grip, the CRS and Cup 2's are quite similar, so I don't expect any meaningful lap time difference.

Yeah, that's classic lift off oversteer. Off camber corner and downhill, the weight transfer can catch you off guard which is why this track is extremely dangerous.

It's counter intuitive but getting back on the throttle ever so slightly plants the rear back down and you gain traction, which is what I did.

Yeah, just need more track time. I started the day with an instructor in the car as it was mandatory for first timers. First session I managed a 1:38. Next session it was 1:35, the next was 1:33, and my final outing just on my own, I hit 1:32.27.

Still working on finding the best lines and being even more smooth. 1:30 should be relatively easy with more practice, but I'm happy with the results for my first outing.

Nice time btw, that's pretty quick for a stock M2.

Yeah, can't complain for my first try. Will naturally improve with more seat time. This is a track that you can not disrespect, people have lost their lives here.

Car is very planted while having the ability to dance around on your command. The steering and chassis inspires confidence and communicates with you which is why I was able to correct those mid turn lift off oversteers.

I'll try to take some pictures this weekend at DDT, they look quite nice. They might rub ever so slightly on the front fenders if you're reversing and turning the wheel, but under track driving, perfect clearance.

Incidentally, after I spent the Cup 2 R's that came with the car, they were replaced with PS4S on the OEM 827M wheels for daily driving as I'm using the VS-5R5/CR-S combo primarily for track.

Hey man! Thats an amazing lap! Once you try Mosprt, you’re not going anywhere else lol. I’ve been going there since 2014 with my track bikes.

I’ll be taking my g87 M2 next month for a baseline test (just got it last month) and see how it does.

Thanks! Yeah, the only concern I have is fuel costs

Fantastic track, would love to go back there sooner than later.

Can't imagine how thrilling and dangerous it is on 2 wheels. Definitely not for me!

I'm trading my comp XD for a G87 M2 CS by the end of this year or early next year, would love to take it to Mosport, should be similar or better pace given similar power and even lower weight.

We're talking about fastest by average speed here. Mosport is top 5 in the world for permanent race tracks, sitting right under tracks like Monza and Jeddah.
