Pre-LCI G80 vs. Current version

Hello,
I'm currently looking at pre-owned G80s, and pre-LCI (no big screen) ones, like 2022 model year, have significantly lower prices (69k vs. 75k).

Part of this is just that they are older, of course.

I don't really need the full screen. Are there any other significant drawbacks of a 2022 vs. 2023/24? (Looking at 6 MT only).

The newer tech is somewhat a personal preference. I like the separate screens and generally turn off the center screen.

Headlights and taillights. More remaining warranty.

Potential for saving some money, especially considering the base price increases, could be a big driver. Just make sure you do a PPI/buy a ‘good’ example.

What spec are you looking for?

Mainly I care for 6 MT, not necessarily competition.
Here's an example.

To be technically correct, the LCI is actually for 2025 model year. Really the only change for those cars you're asking about is the iDrive 8 screen vs. 7. Which tends to be a very personal thing.

I'm in camp big screen to the death but that's just me. Otherwise the cars are identical except for some small decontenting that BMW did along the way.

If you're happy (or happier) with the smaller screen there are no drawbacks except age.

Don’t want to spread rumors, but read on the forum that early cars had duller steering which was rectified with later models. The upside of earlier models is that Bimmercode can do a lot more.

Like people have said on this thread the main difference is the iDrive screens. Which is all a preference end of the day. (unless you're talking about the 2025+ models which got the new exterior lights + steering wheel)

I went for an older model as i prefer the older iDrive. It has physical buttons for climate control/heated seats etc which is easier to use on the move, plus it has a more focused driver "cockpit" look compared to the new big screens. Which to me at least makes a "drivers car" feel that more special. And for someone who's going for a 6MT option, id say a "driver focused" screen would make the experience better

Not sure on the steering point above, but if that is true i'm sure a CSL/CS flash would sort that anyways

Yep the screens--- its subjective

Whats not subjective for me are the headlights. The LCI's are just not as good at night on the same exact roads that I use (limited lighting).

And the DRL's --- whats better?

The laser headlights IMO are BMWs best designed headlight ever. Simple gorgeous. The lci are so plane looking and took a big step back.

I'm biased but I like the dual screen layout of i-drive 7. Just feels more like a cockpit and driver focused. Plus, you get physical buttons etc. Like said about the laser lights and DRL's are better pre lci to me.

Also, like said above. The ability to code with i-drive 7 can be a big advantage to some.

Just by looking your pics (not only this one), both headlight designs look almost equally good. But seen them in person, I prefer the pre-LCI headlights by far. But as you said, that's subjective.

Oh and regarding OP's question: There is no official data, but according to various members, the Harmon Kardon sound system has been improved with the introduction of the iD8.

I’m really happy with pre LCI, don’t think the LCI changes are a necessity, I guess it’s cool to have the latest, but might be cooler to save some money for mods on a low mileage pre LCI
