Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02
I have a 2025 G82 with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S 285/30ZR20 on the rear and 275/35ZR 19 on the front. I noticed that these tires are melting a bit after a full day at the track.
I am thinking of purchasing Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 for track use. I can put them on before track day and then remove them after track day. This way I can use the Michelin for daily usage. I plan on doing around 6 track days a year. The Continental are $1367 for a set of 4, and the Michelin are $1619 from TireRack. I am not chasing better track times, I go to the track for fun. I want to keep my cost as low as possible while having fun, so I am looking for tires that I won't have to replace after a couple of track days. I am hoping the Continental ones will last me through the 6 track days I plan on going in a year. I found this video review very useful on this topic. I would love to hear your thoughts on this tire combination, would you recommend any other tires instead? Last edited by g82sf; 11-27-2024 at 02:23 AM.. |

Those tires are the exact same tire in competition for both brands, the CECS2 wont do any better on the track than the MPS4S.
If track days are your thing I would suggest looking for a track based tire, example being the Michelin Pilot Cup 2 or the Continental Extreme Contact Force, both of those are track rated tires. |

I ran Continental ECS on my first track day with the G80 and this is what they looked like after 5 sessions. I ran them at 40 psi hot, so overinflation was likely a factor. This was my second-ever track day so I'm not super fast. I'm likely switching to the BMW spec PS4S.
This video highlights the advantages of OEM-spec tires. |

Yeah Istranic, that tire is not a CECS2 at all, that is a All Season DWS06+. That tire should have never been anywhere near a track other than driving into the pits to park the vehicle for the day.

Thanks for pointing that out... things are making a lot more sense!
In hindsight, I should have assumed the non-BMW dealer would not install expensive tires prior to sale. I should have familiarized myself with the Extreme Contact product line. I'm any case, I'm looking forward to upgrading the tires and heading back to the track! |

Those DWS06+ are an amazing UHP All Season tire, they just dont belong on the track unless you are running track days in the rain.
